Ye Olde Mariner

He was riding the crest of a wave
Applauded by all for his yarns
But then showed us his warped sense of fun
And nailed his true colours to the mast

Will the wave break and devour him
Or will he ascend to new peaks
Perhaps he should tighten his vang
To reduce the amount of his twist

The tide may yet turn
And smooth stormy seas
But public opinion is fickle
How can he get out of this pickle

After a very lazy day yeserday, it was back to the show today. The route I am cycling is mainly on minor roads or through some parkland with quite a few short sharp hills. It is 7 miles each way and this morning I did it in just 40 minutes, which even after stopping for several traffic lights, the average speed was still 10½ mph.

Once at the show I headed to order the solar panels, but this evening I am still awaiting the invoice so I can pay. Then it was off to be on the Centaur in the marina. Here I met some friends who I saw at last year's at the show, plus several people interested in Westerly boats. One couple were wanting a Westerly at up to £100,000, another couple and a group of three friends were wanting to both buy a Centaur. Several current and old Centaurs owners came aboard for a chat.

Just before 1pm, I was relieved so I could grab a bite to eat. Then I wandered over to see the little blonde bombshell on the ASAP stand. She greeted me with a big smile and we just laughed about the wind up I tried at the weekend. She even said if I was a bit younger she would go out with me, but I sorry but I am already married. She wanted me to take a selfie with her to show there is definitely no problem, unlike some forum members who think everyone should be politially correct and have no sense of humour. My comment to them is get real and relax a bit.

This afternoon I saw Richard and Allison who I met several times whilst sailing up the East Coast and again in N Ireland. They circumnavigated via the Caledonian Canal and as they have not been sailing for long, were a lot more cautious than me. Late in the afternoon they returned wanting a little advice, so to help I took them to another stand to help them decide on the what they were planning to buy. Other forum members who I met today included Tranona, ChrisCorp, Birdseye, SaltyC and several who did not give their name.

In Mercury Yacht Haven on Monday late afternoon, a Halberg Rassey passed my transom and gave me a wave and shouted "Love your articles". With so many of you liking my reports, it feels like you are making me a celebrity. I am just an ordinary guy who has renovated my old boat and now done a series of day sails that have taken me on the long way round Britain. I may have a few extra skills, use a bit less caution than most people, but come and chat with me and you will see I put on no airs and graces. It makes no difference whether you have a superyacht or a 50 year old 20ft boat, you will all be treated the same.

Looking at the previous post I realised I had forgotten to include the photos of the dew and some of down on the show marina, unfortunately it is too lte to edit the post now, so they are included now.

Not sure whether to be flattered or concerned at someone claiming to be me? Regrettably I was not at the Boat Show yesterday so we did not meet. However, once you move Concerto to the west coast I hope to meet you as you leisurely explore the area. Enjoy the remainder of the show.

There was an old man from Mudway
Who done up his boat his way
He sailed around Britain
Made a joke t'was unfitten
But most of us give not a shit anyway.

My memory of who I spoke to must be wrong, but it was a very similar sounding name. Sorry for the error.

Your earlier post today shows your true colours and you still do not understand how well I knew this young lady. You should have seen the welcome she gave me when I walked on the stand at midday on Tuesday and how she laughed at my comments. Up until this moment I must have talked face to face for about 5 hours and included a long visit to Concerto at last years Boat Show. This was her first visit on any boat where she learnt how a lot of the products she sells are used. There have also been a series of telephone calls regarding the many delays in completing my order post Covid and therefore delayed the fitting of a new pessurised hot and cold water system and electrical panel and ultimately reduced my trip by a month. There was also a problem of using an incomplete address causing 2 separate deliveris not arriving as promised. Even though there were problems, I did not get mad with her, we chatted about a lot of things, like my new YouTube videos as she watches everyone, besides the problems. So, did I know this young lady? Yes and I certainly had the measure of her sense of humour.

By cancelling what ever you were posting shows you agree are not in the majority. If you had posted any further comment, I was going to put you on ignore. That is something I have never done, but you are still on my radar for adverse comments on any posts. Every forum member is welcome to have a different opinion to another forum member and I would defend this position. On the same point, everyone should remember that a post can easily be missread or jump to the wrong conclusion. I did find being called sexist, etc offensive, but I tried to keep my calm when I could easily have responded in a similar vein.

The one comment, of something I considered a little bit of fun, has been blown out of all proportion by several forum members. Shame on them. They have ruined my opinion of a number of forum members who contribute very little constructive information to the forum. It has been a considerable effort to post something interesting with photographs everyday for 119 days, especially after a hard long day's sail.

There have been a few other well known forum members who have either taken a leave of absense from the forum or left the forum completely because of hounding comments. The forum is poorer without them due to the actions of a limited number of forum members.

As far as I am concerned this matter is now closed.

Any further adverse comments on this matter from any forum member will receive an automatic ignore from me.

Hounding? Hardly surely?
Its a forum, a place for discussion, you might like some of what folk say about your posts, you might not like some, thats normal. To put anyone who doesn't agree with you on ignore seems a bit petulant.
Hounding would be if certain posters followed you around commenting negatively on everything you say or taking potshots at you in almost every thread you were in, and thats a good reason to put someone on ignore, but it hasnt happened yet and probably wont.

I can think of 3 very useful forum members who felt hounded and left the forum, and only one has returned after a break of 3 years. How do I know this? I have talked face to face on several occassions with the member who has returned. He is someone I respect for his extensive knowledge and have disagreed with on certain matters, but we are still friends.

There should be wide ranging discussions on a forum, not everyone will agree with every comment posted. I have replied to adverse comments in this thread in a civilised way despite being offended by their comments and accusations. I made very clear that any further comments on this matter would cause being put on ignore. It seems being unable to read a clear message in bold was beyond doug748, so he is now on ignore.

Instead of immediately putting you on ignore, I decided to reply to your comment. However any further comment on this matter will mean I put you on ignore. This is your last warning. So I just advise you to keep your thoughts to yourself or start a new thread which I will not see, which in my opinion would be pointless. THIS DISCUSSION IS ENDED.

Last night I felt tired and went to bed earlier than normal at 00.30. The alarm was set for 07.30, but I woke up at 06.30. After quick scan of the news, I was up and off to have a shower. The sun had not been up that long and was low in the sky and very orange. This was a wonderful time to take a few photographs, which I hope you enjoy.

The day has been a lot of talking with potential and existing Westerly owners, plus a some forum members who appreciate the posts in the Round Britain series.

The one very interesting conversation I had today was with Chris Jacobs, a co-founder of SailTies. This is a new app, currently available for Apple devices and shortly for Android, to allow you to keep all your sailing journies in one place. Basically it is an online log book that allows you to capture your voyage, photos and notes, collaborate with crew members to add their comments and photos, all in one online place. This can then be shared with family and friends. I am looking forward to a longer conversation with him tomorrow.

You misunderstand me, I didnt say no one on the forum had been hounded, I said you yourself were not being hounded, just disagreed with on one thread.
Shouting in caps to stop talking about it just looks petulant. If anything it has the opposite effect, It never worked for Boris :)

Let me put this another way and you might understand my point better.

This thread is part of a long series of posts that have been very warmly received and I have been encouraged by many forum members to continue writing. One comment has created a maassive distraction within this particular thread for those who want to continue reading my reports. Everyone is allowed to comment on every thread on this forum, which I agree with. However when it becomes mainly a discussion of one minor comment, then I would not call that thread drift. My action of using bold and CAPITALS was to bring the thread back to the main conent. I could have easily asked the moderators to step in and curtail these comments, but I have not. If any other reader of this agrees and wants to do this, feel free.

As for doug748, I will unblock him in about a month and I hope he has learnt his lesson.

Oh thanks Roger. I’ve no idea what your on about at all. Totally confused. Not posted anything about you. Thought you had a great trip. I’ve liked it lots of times. Not commented on your Apparant sexist comment. And you jump on me.
Thank you very much.

I’ll await an apology for that please. If other peoples comments have upset you I’m am sorry. Personally I thought the sexist thing a bit toungue in cheek. my deleted post herer was going to be a funny remark to some of the positive posts.

My deleted posts you refer too (I know what your on about) contained a polite post and a rude response. It was long winded and I removed it. If you think it showed my true colours that’s up to you. I think it was what it was and I’ll re post it.

true colours. Forget the sexist humour. Your attitude when you sailed back in to the Solent was a PR disaster. That showed your true colours. He thinks he’s better than everyone now, how quickly a little fame went to your head.
We can all be nasty if you like. In your little plastic Fulmar. Classic yeh right.
I’ve dealt with one bully sounds like you have the makings of a good one.

Its what they do. Steveeasy, hes an easy target ill pick on him. Just what the other two did. thing is bullies are so slow they never quite realise until they get told.

I'm hoping to join the Bad Boys Banned Brotherhood by profligate, inappropriate and disrespectful use of post 'like' icons. It's not been threatened as a put-on-ignore offence yet, but can only be a matter of time. I expect I'll soon learn not to do it again!
