Nanny or not, I'll put up with any amount of hissy fits (tho it'd only be one per person - no second chances!) about being made to wear a harness rather than having to explain to the Coroner & crew's missus why I didn't insist...

A few days ago I watched a couple of corpses (wrapped in white shrouds and on stretchers) being wheeled up the gangplank of the Norderney lifeboat to a waiting ambulance, which was moored just in front of us. I don't know what happened, but this was after a very stiff Northerly which had made impressive breakers on the Norderney beach, I was glad I wasn't trying to get through the seegat that day. It was a sobering sight to accompany my breakfast, no doubt even more sobering for the lifeboat crew who had to fish the bodies out of the water.
Better to postpone/cancel the race where necessary. If people want to sail out into it anyway, no one's going to stop them.
