Batteries reading a steady 13,1 on a good multimeter. Nothing else switched on, Raymarine calibrated to13.1. The NMEA bridge leds are steady then flash on and off, Oh and the C80 plotter starts up and then dies almost immediately. Power source good,

You need diagnostic information.
Check the voltage at the RM display with, preferably, an analogue meter. This will show fluctuations better than a digital one.
You say the NMEA bridge leds are steady but you also say "nothing else switched on".
Perhaps my lack of understanding.

You say power source good but if the plotter is dropping out you have a bad connection by the sounds of it. I had recent similar issues. The black and red power feed onto the backbone had a poor connection. Once fixed all was good. Where does you plotter take its power feed from?
