Hmm, and did you assess where the ablated antifouling went to ? It looks as if there's a slip nearby.

It went where all the other antifoul goes from all the boats at the boatyard that prep and do their antifouling there........ Where do you think it would go....... Where do you think the antifoul goes when the boat is floating in the water.

Where do you think the contents of the sea toilets go for the many hundreds of boats on the broads that don't have a holding tank

For your information no slip nearby

On the toxins front it would be nice if there were something like that in the current stuff you buy.... It might then actually work

It often seems that the current toxins are a lot more poisonous to humans than sea life. When it comes to spent antifoul in the water after you’ve stripped it, I cast my mind back to the festoons of growth hanging from the boat when she comes out, and wonder if theres some form of fertiliser in it. Well, ok, not seriously.

On my boat on the broads (the S24) the antifoul easily lasts for 3 years which is the sort of time many people leave their boat in between lift outs.

On the River Deben I use the same antifoul and after 3 - 4 months it has grown quite a beard and I need to beach her and give it a scrub............. I know in Marinas it is better I think because the water is kind of foul to start with. Mine is on a swing mooring and the water is very 'fresh'

Standard reply from you when challenged: use smokescreening, diversionary, questions.

I wonder if all the surface water from the marina hard standing goes into a reserved tank via surface drains, for filtering. Or does the marina have a dedicated washdown area ?

Read the RYA recommendations recently, have you ?

Antifouling (rya.org.uk)

One notes the absence of a tarpaulin or groundsheet in your work. Using your wife to mop up the toxins is not really honourable, is it ?

I did what every one in that Marina does..... As for my wife we have been married 35 years so I would think all is good there and possibly no concern of yours. Perhaps think a little about equality and the fact that my wife does the same as I do when it comes to DIY and other similar things.

As for the other aspects of where a boatyards drainage goes. Perhaps a little reality check might be in order

I am not concerned with your wife; I am concerned, like others here, for her health bcs of the antifouling debris on her face , which is there because you are unwilling to read and act upon the recommendations, which soon will become rules. But we know your view about following rules.

Equality has nothing to do with my environmental concerns; if it were I would like to see you cover your face with AF scrapings.

As for "what everyone in the Marina does", I have never taken you for a sheep, blindly following bad practice. You have a choice as a thinking human being: do what is least bad for the adjacent rivers and wildlife, or wilfully, knowingly evade your responsibilities as a motor boater.

BTW Your last paragraph does not make sense.

After watching Paul Whitehouse the other day about the water companies polluting all our rivers and killing fish and so on, I think that is probably more of a concern than the odd boater bad practice.

Setting aside the rights, wrongs and risks associated with anti fouling (which I accept BTW) and all other things being equal, any boater who has a wife willing to partake in the annual fun and games of anti fouling has, in my humble opinion, married a keeper. I convinced my wife to join me in the same activity many years ago and, frankly, it didn’t go well.

It's taken a few years of marriage to finally get my wife round from the idea of a boat to actually going out to get one. The trip along the canals in Holland did the trick, that plus our friends in Scotland all seem to be yotties for some strange reason :)
As for helping anti foul the boat, well she would be the first in with sandpaper and a paint brush.

We go to look at her first boat when we come back to Scotland later this week a compact (small?) semi displacement motor cruiser. :)

Great stuff. Good luck with the purchase and enjoy your boating. Anti fouling aside, my wife and I love our boating together 👍🏻⚓

Thanks but in these days of equality and being PC I see no reason why women would not do the antifoul just like a man would. It is 2023 after all
