Have done this run a few times. If there's any likelihood of serious westerly weather keep well off the Moroccan coast. If you have the time consider breaking the passage with a stop in Porto Santo or Madeira, if there's more north than east in the forecast.

Don't miss Rabat in Morocco on the way down - but you need settled weather - otherwise just sail directly to Lanzarote from southern Portugal - not much to it just keep an eye on the weather coming out of the med and sail down. It's the return trip that's a bugger.

Did the trip last June from Gib had good wind 20knt mainly N N/W took 4 days and 6 hours very straight forward. Returning to the Med this year via Madeira in July August.

Very good point. Gave them 5 miles clear in rough weather - next time it will be 50 miles or well away to windward :(

Went over a sea mount in a F7 in 2004 on route to Porta Santo. Seas were twice the size of the already large seas in a northerly blow. Seriously rough! We gave them a wide berth this time

Sometime I never even considered , what in your opinion is best time to do trip?

We did it in 2014 in October. Passage was fine. It depends what your plans are. We were going trans Atlantic so we were working backwards from an end of November exit from La Gomera across the pond
