When I asked a local broker, although I'm a resident his answer was no, as the boat is UK registered. OTOH, I've heard comments that others have managed it but no idea who with.

Pants will insure UK registered boats kept permanently in the EU.

As did Y Yacht. Not sure of that's still the case since they were taken over by Topsail.

I asked about insurance for a boat with my Belgian insurance agent, she said it was possible after contacting the underwriter, and I was pleasantly surprised at the cost. That is keeping the boat under a UK flag in the UK and me as a Belgian resident using the boat in Scottish coastal and inland waters.
The other question was about towing the boat with my Belgian registered car and the answer to that was I was already covered to tow a trailer with an up to 3500kg capacity and specifically mentioned was towing a boat again up to the legal length and width and a combined weight of trailer and boat of up to 3500kg, no extra fee would be required.
I'm covered in the UK specifically and in the EU generally for towing. Part of the coverage is because I do have a light goods vehicle (Range Rover Sport) and I have a commercial towing licence issued by the Belgian state.
I knew going for that licence was a good move :)

but I think only of you are also a UK resident

That seems to be the case, my friend had his previous UK boat based here insured with Pants in UK but they wouldn't cover his Polish one.

We're insured with N & G via Topsail but difficult to obtain as we're on swing mooring, in commission 365. Use our UK address, not Portuguese one.

German Office but I'm sure they will redirect if required.

Your country of residence determines which Pants office will provide your quote/policy.

When I asked Pants for a quote as a French resident, I received it from their Monaco office.
When I asked for a quote as a UK resident, I got it from their UK office.

Same boat - same home port - same level of coverage.
Yet one quote was substantially cheaper than the other.

I was asked to provide 'proof': bank statement, utility bill, ...

I am pretty sure Pantaenius UK will only insure UK registered boats if the owner is a UK resident

But I wonder what about the case where a yacht is owned by a UK LTD - I think this is common for Part 1 registrations.

In this case, the LTD will have a UK address.

sorry about the thread drift...

Which was cheapest?

I've had no problem getting a quote from Topsail/Y Yachts on the basis of Swiss residency, dual UK/CH national, boat location Greece, flag Polish. That was with Haven Knox Johnson. Not quite in a position to move on it yet (offer accepted, but struggling to find a surveyor available before May)
