I'm with you on the rest of your comments, though tbh the N EU retirees have probably brought more money to e.g. Spain, compared to the costs Spain had to bear to give them hospitality.
Pretty different from what happens in Lampedusa on a daily basis, frinstance.
 
However if you become resident in another EU country, you will not just be contributing by spending your money there, you will also be paying taxes there on your worldwide income, maybe your wealth (if they deem you to have enough) and all the other taxes paid by the people of that country, which means in the case of Spain, a registration tax on boats, cars etc., introduced as a green tax to compensate the government for loss of the luxury tax they had to drop when VAT was introduced.

There do appear to be some exceptions for some things already owned and imported when becoming resident, which is maybe what Alex Chumillas refers to, but I'm not clear on that one.

As a UK pensioner health cover is provided for by an annual lump sum transfer between the two governments, arranged under the E121.

This isn't an 'opt-in' voluntary thing /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif That's why we all need to understand the rules and make sure that we plan our lives within the rules to suit our circumstances. It would be, for example, daft to get involved in full Spanish residency (administration and tax) if your plan was to go back to the UK in nine months, or move to another jurisdiction. It wouldn't do anyone any favours to go to all the trouble -- except, maybe, lawyers and accountants /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Yup I know, my point was that the bottom line for Spain out of "UK retirees business" is bound to be positive even regardless of what you mention. Not exactly the same as "invading a Country which then bears the costs", which is indeed what happens in other cases.
 
The OP was happy to tell us that he had moved from Benalmadena, but is obscure about where he is.

If the OP would deign to tell us where he is, then someone may be able to pop along to help, or even confirm that he is there. It would also help others to avoid the place if they were at risk.

Until he at least tells us where he is, I remain suspicious.

By the way: As they refer to Spain as "stupid country" I shall say there is not stupid countries. Might be stupid citizens, stupid laws or stupid burocracy, but we have this sort of things all over the world and taxes are paid in almost every country, even if we don´t like to pay them.
 
Well spotted. Yes that is a cruising forum inhabited by helpful and non sarcastic people, unlike some other forums. It is of course based in the US and maybe American yotties have a more relaxed attitude to life than the British equivalents, some of whom seem to only want to try to score points off other posters, rather than to offer any helpful or useful input to the forum.

No names needed are there?

Why doesn't this forum show the ip address of a post?

Many other forums based on the same software do include this info on a post. Makes identifiction of spoof posts far easier.

Little point, few people have fixed IP addresses. In fact many ISP's will charge extra for a fixed IP address

Many times people will ask and answer their own questions while still signed on to the same session... or send in anonymous glowing reports about an organisation while using an ip address that can be tracked back to that same organisation.

Most spoof posts are spotted on the other forums because the spoofer knows far less than you and I about the internet.
 
The OP may have got more sympathetic responses on the other forum, but not many wer of much value. Some were about VAT which while an understandable preoccupation of North Americans crusing in Europe, has nothing to do with the OP's predicament.

It appears the OP has become liable for income tax in Spain, and that has a knock on consequence for his vessel. If so, there's not much scope for argument so even the best lawyer is unlikely to wriggle out of it.

I agree it would be reassuring if the OP were to respond with some more information. Until this happens I reserve judgement on the troll possibilty.
