I cant help with your rquests but was impressed to watch one being tacked through a very crowded mooring area with only a small jib and no mainsail. There was about 20 knots of wind and not once did it fail to tack and was eventually moored up with no problem.

Turned out to have lost its propellor.

The pegasus 800 was designed and built by gordon harris at oulton broad. i have had a fairly elderly, masthead rigged , fin keel, 800 for several years which is kept on the river deben and has been sailed regularly to france , belgium and holland. she sails and handles well but seems to be fairly lightly built.

Thanks to those who provided info. My boat is raced in Dublin Bay at ECHO handicapped rating in "Crusing Crusers" class. A natural shyness fobids quoting her recent racing record but for info see www.dbsc.accuris.ie look ot "Artemis".
DavidBaldwin quotes Gordon Harris as designer, but I had heard that the boat was originally badged with a different name as a V de S design.

Gordon Harris is a friend of my father. I can get in touch with him to confirm designer if you really need to know. The moulds were still in oulton broad last time I looked and the odd one or two are still produced to order.

I can probably get a phone number for you if you need to contact them. They still run a small brokerage and often have 700's and 800's available.

I believe Gordon Harris was the designer - he certainly designed the Pegasus 700 'cos his name is on the builders plate on my dads 700! Both him and Kevin Taylor who ran Pegasus Yachts (and Rydgeway marine before then) are extremely nice guys. I believe that they have retired from production and just do brokerage nowadays. Peggy bits and pieces / repairs can be had from Oulton Manufacturing, Caldecot Rd, Oulton Broad which is run by former Pegasus boatbuilder IIRC.

Rydgeway built the Pandora which was a Van de Stadt design so perhaps thats the confusion?

As an aside my father's 700 (shallow fin, 3/4 rig) is excellent on the Norfolk Broads. As the OM is getting on a bit I have considered taking her on for use on the East Coast (Blackwater) but feel that she's a bit too lightweight for coastal use.
Any thoughts anyone?

Cheers, AJ

I sail my masthead lift keel 800 on the River Orwell and have been very pleased with it. It is superbly responsive in crowded waters and have had no worries cruising between Lowestoft and the Blackwater. And yes it was designed by Gordon Harris who is a nice chap who has sold me odd bits from their works on Oulton Broad. Incidently a good contact for original Volvo MB2 50S engine repairs/spares is Marine Power of Brundall near Norwich where I live.

I had a pegasus 800 fractional rig, wing keel until 2000 - a fantrastic boat that we travelled far in. Especially good in light winds.
I have a copy of the "Guide to completing the part built Pegasus 800" which would be very interesting to you as it contains lots of diagrams and informatrion, and I may be able to photocopy it. PM me.

After all these eulogies(?}, I'm sorry to upset the applecart, but...........
We had one in our club, Jeremy Bear was her name. On a visit to Ramsey IOM, a single keel boat of about the same size dried out alongside, ensuring that the washboards could not be removed on account of the 'nip'. The same boat had the mast come through the coachroof at a later date. Keep clear.
Cheers, Dave

hi, as you know your pegasus 800's i was wondering if you would be so kind as to give me some advice. I recently, almost bought one of these boats but was put off when i walked over the deck & coach roof, the amount of flex under my feet was so bad that i decided against it. Was i right to walk away or is this normal on the pegasus 800. Any advice would be appreciated, Many thanks Ian. ps. the boat is still avaible if i change my mind.

Gordon Harris was the Designer.
i bought a Hull & Deck moulding from Ridgeway in Dec 1977 she was launched in the following June with a fully fitted-out teak interior. we owned her for 10 trouble free years & probably 30 North Sea Crossings to boot. she is quite different to a Std 800 though but the wash boards never ever got stuck even when dried out along side the dock
