I see in the latest MBM thier four cruises during the summer.
Also at boat show we talked to RYA who are organising a one week cruise for new boat owners (power) to France. This has support from Sealine.
We are new to boats so on the face of it something like this is a good way to build experience and confidence. But which to go for.
Has anyone done any of these and if so what is your opinion of it?
Even better has anyone done both MBM and RYA and which was best and why?

Organised cruises or cruises in company as MBM terms them are excellent ways of gaining experience and going to places that you might otherwise not go to and a good way to meet fellow boaters
We did several MBM cruises in the early 1990's including our first Channel crossing and subsequently did the Channel Islands, Brittany, Holland, Paris and the Scillies all with MBM. The beauty of a cruise like this is you dont have to worry about whether you'll get a berth at your destination because its all booked ahead and, if it all goes pear shaped, there's somebody on hand to tow you in or help fix your boat.
We also did one cruise with the RYA but in comparison to MBM, the arrangements were a bit shambolic

Only done one, a couple of years ago. First Channel crossing. Excellent for building confidence in self and boat. Well organised, superb company, and great insurance if doubtful about abilities. Can definitely say "go for it".
Why haven't I done any more? Purely time difficulties. Only get two weeks holiday - difficult to get to starting venue and do two weeks cruise and return to base.
Confidence gained on that trip has allowed me to do more cruising alone.

Agree with Deleted User's last sentence.

I have been on both, no comparison.

Also, see newer thread re family cruising 04 - maybe "tag" along, might be tempted ourselves !

MBM Cruise in Company

David,

We've been on two MBM cruise in company and I cannot recommend them highly enough. The organisation was superb and the trips fantastic fun. You also get the re-assurance that there are very skilled and knowledgeable people who are there to help you every step of the way (even in the event of mechanical failures). You also get to meet some great people and families.

Having never been on one, I cannot comment on the RYA cruises
