Actually they may not be. I have seen videos of sperm whales chasing them off. That is why I suggested playing the clicking that sperm whale pods issue. It seems that Orcas are a bit careful of engaging bull sperm whales, when competing for food.
That's the answer then yachts to have an escort of male Sperm Whales

Seperate to the Orca attack thread.

Some sailors think that escape to open water is increasingly pointing to the Suez Canal.

However, Gibraltar must be defended. Perhaps an organized escort service by the Royal Navy in her role as gaurdians of the gateway. Maybe a form of Dane-geld with choice filleted Tuna in exchange for safe passage. Invent a "Water Whistle" attached to the prop that amplifies propellor noise to an unbearable volume. Orca can hardly stick their finns in their ears. Taser the culprits. Make your own with a capacitor of many farads. Fully charged a large capacitor is deadly when the stored energy is released via a two pronged fork in an instant.

It is time something was done. Our species has a duty to uphold the rule of evolution and protect ourselves from other species. Survival of the fittest is not a game it is a basic fundamental reason we are here on this planet. Millions of life forms have been created. The eventual winner could be a virus. But in the meantime ... fight.

This is my opinion and I could not care less what the Woke white flag surrender brigade make of it.

Having spent in the past many years earning my daily bread in the waters around Gibraltar, I can see what effect it has on those there now.

I do not advocate cruelty but it's time to rid the Straits of these rogue wild animals.

Burst them.

The Orcas seem to attack the rudder of boats which being GRP with foam filled I think I would be Ok with a oil filled steel rudder and skeg. My hull being also steel would tend to give then a bloody nose if then head butted us

In Orcaland there's a similar thread about making rudders tastier y'know.
Not trying to make friends (you wouldn't be able to guess), but it's their home and we've gotta adapt to it.

Can you just image what they could do to a yacht , boat crew would have no chance .
What if someone did something harmful to an orca, the orca calls his friends and they proceeded to destroy your boat as they want a word with you ? Possible ?
Orca "Attacking" a yacht seems a little strong, more like toying/playing.

My post was intended as a seperate thread with the title "Gibraltar is under blockade by Orca" it was merged with this thread by the moderator. The title of the thread set the scene for my post which in my mind was the rule of evolution. The post now makes no sense, but worse it sits there like a snake in the grass. Basically, do not mess with large capacitors unless you understand them. They can be fatal or at best leave a very nasty burn. Capacitors are transparant to AC but will block DC. The capacitor must be charged with DC or it may explode. It will work. The pronged fork would be in a balloon to prevent early discharge when in contact with the sea, then when stabbed, the prongs will break through. The instant release of energy will give these animals a nasty jolt. They are big enough to take it without injury but will leave a memory that rudders are not a free lunch. Camera Flash Guns, among others, use this principle.

An alternative would be a bang stick essentially a 12 bore cartridge on the end of a long pole with a spring loaded pin that will act as a firing pin when the pole is pressed against something.

These are popular in OZ to convince sharks that the human race is not to be trifled with. Honest that is/was their stated reaso I recall the cartridges were blanks but made a big bang.

It's taken me a while to remember about them but if I were transiting waters that are currently problematic I would certainly make a couple and carry them on board with a box of 12 bore solid slugs.

Anchoring off Barbatte is very unusual. Hardly ever seen anyone do it. For what it costs, easier for a night in the marina. There is always room but a long walk into town. (y)
I anchored off but it was pretty settled, 0.4m swell from SW and 8 knts decaying /decreasing overnight. Holding was good. Got a bit fed up with submitting docs on line then having to produce hard copies and fill in forms with Puertos De Andalucia. Plus there were 2 blokes gabbling non stop on 09 for a full 30 minutes which was the the final straw for me. I was knackered, mostly through anxiety.

Good idea basically a poacher alarm on a stick. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Bisley-Security-Burglars-Intruders-Galvanized/dp/B0049ACMC6 Easy to recharge and go again. I have some blanks I could try dunking but even if they don't like getting wet its easy to dip the front end in wax. I don't think a solid slug or shot would work without being constrained in a barrel, the cartridge would blow out at the sides. Trouble is if you made anything with any type of barrel you might be liable for making a firearm though if the separate parts were divided about a boat... Even a blank close up would probably be felt as well as heard so would probably be enough. You can buy 12g blanks without a license of any type.

They would be classed as a firearm in the UK and Europe as they are chambered to contain either the shotgun cartridge or a conventional firearm cartridge. I said Shotgun cartridge because that is not too difficult to obtain ( A sabot would be in the UK) whereas a 44 magnum cartridge would be impossible to obtain in the UK.
