Now I spend a lot of time on the water , I think I may actually have spend more time on the water than i have in a car , well its getting close. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Well I thought I had seen most not all sea states , wind, tide, weather combinations in the Solent area now but NOOOO, Last night surprised me, well near dump struck me , well you get the idea, /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Night hours were due so after looking at the weather forecast, you know that depressing info we need though some is quite fictional now, almost comical, but thats another topic, back to me being quiet, and that if anyone has spent time with me is not something that comes easily.
We set off on a short but to the point planned passage , we exited the river in a misty, damp , drizzling dusk.
Well I was gob smacked, yes me!!!!

It was incredible,
vis was about 2 nm, we were expecting to be navigating with a great deal of back light, or light pollution, [when its hard to make out the buoys] and well it was not what was expected.

there was a mist , like you were looking though a frosted glass window but instead of blurring the lights it made each light a individual , the water was ironed flat, there was NO wind, every coloured light could be made out easily, close to you it seemed to be Crystal clear, It was beautiful, I tried to take some pics but the phone camera just lost the plot, it stayed like this for about 30 mins , then the mist lifted. The student must have though I was mad as I cooed and ahhhrrred. LOL
Thats a night to remeber /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sounds great. Something similar happened the night of my offshore exam last year. I still remember like it was last night.

Beautifully described, thank you. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Reminds me of the Tall Ships leaving Waterford in 2005. Flat calm afternoon, absolutely no hint of wind and fine mist patches about the estuary.

It was amazing watching the ships come out of the mist into brilliant sunshine. It was like a scene from a movie.

Only down side was that the sails were not up due to lack of wind.
