Leaving aside the wiring mess and getting wind speed to work again ... I have my least fav item to deal with : weathered teak slats.

Unlike many people - I detest silvered weathered teak ... it always makes me think of decaying wood left at back of a yard ...

The cockpit benches, sole ... and cabin soles are all teak slats ...

Cabin's not so bad as walking keeps the wood worn and silvering at bay.

It looks silver - but camera flash caused it to look lighter than it really is.

But the cockpit being exposed - has that silvering.

It will be light sanding - the slats are not thin like later boats - these are thick jobbies ! Brushed off ... then treated to bring out the beauty of the teak. Lightly of course so no staining of clothes etc, when sitting down. I have already the treatment ... so no need to recc'd products not available over here !! Its a preservative water based stain designed for boats .. decking of pontoons ... balconys ... etc. It prevents mould, preserves the wood and brings up the grain and colour ...

Probably the nearest UK boaters would have is Burgess Wood Stain ? Or similar where the fluid soaks in and leaves no outer skin.

Brick cleaner, or patio cleaner if not available, worked in with a flexible brush. Then washed off. Repeat & this time use a not too stiff scrubbing brush.
Repeat every 3-4 months if you want a bright finish. In any event you will not end up with spoiled teak; with some faded stain that cannot be removed & will eventually look patchy.

Aldi/Lidl version of Patio Magic, easy to apply with the type of brush used to paint garden fences. Apply with a dry weather forecast for the following few days. Twice per year, start and end of the season. During the season, a good beat to windward in a lively sea will keep teak looking nice. Otherwise, never apply any chemicals.

I love my teak deck. There, I’ve said it.

I haven't seen this recently. Do they still do it?

I have 12lt of Lidl Deck Oil treatment as well as the one I mentioned above ...

As regards : "n any event you will not end up with spoiled teak; with some faded stain that cannot be removed & will eventually look patchy."

Loosely termed a stain ... its actually a decking preservative designed for this type of job ... applied similar to 'Skylarks' Lidl product ...

Lightly sanded just to remove the weathered (right) ... with stain applied (left)

The stain used is water based light teak - designed for balconies / decking / rails etc. It has anti fungi / mould agents ... UV resistant etc. It soaks in - so non slip is still there .... etc.

Are you masking off each slat individually or just trusting a steady hand? Asking because I've got a similar job to do soon.

Trusty hand ...

I did think of getting narrow tape and applying inbetween - but in the end ... s*d it - just got on with it.

But anyway with water based stain - its easy to wipe away ... BUT avoid sanding the GRP as it then gets a scratched surface and srain can be hard to remove from the scratches.

I love teak decks ..... but having sailed on a 70,000 ton tanker that was originally built as 33,000 ton in the 1950's and had teak accommodation decks - chinese crew actually holystoning once a month ... I like teak - but not left to weather and lose its sheer elegance of colour.

I’m a lazy sod and thus a woodophobe on boats but I agree those slats look much nicer sanded and treated. A satisfying afternoon’s work I would have thought.

Tomorrow she gets a shake down ... fed up working on wiring etc. - time to take her out again and let her loose ... just a two day trip .... then its think about when to lift .. boats are already starting to come out over here.
Gives time then to do jobs before autumn and winter fall on us ...

Had a magic 3 days out ... showed potential .. and incredible balance - she steered herself for near one hour while punching in 1 - 2m waves, just full genny in 8 - 10m/s wind 45 deg port bow ...

On monday she gets lifted as said before weather turns cold ... allowing me to work on her .... have a few chips to gel-fill .. smooth then paint on hull after some strong winds while moored to pontoon. Pontoon lost its fixed corner fender and the corner got between my fenders.

Have Wind gear at masthead to sort ... LED bulb to swap into Anchor / Triu light ... install flag halyards ... change steaming light to LED ... generally sort mast ...

Get to see those transducers !!

Wash her off and make decision about A/F ..

Check keel joint ...

I actually have quite a list to get through ... as I work through - I will bore you with updates !!
