EU VAT Paid status won't change, it's not relevant to the nationality of the owner or the port of registry. Leaving it in Spain is fine.
Thanks Sticky Fingers - reassuring to know. Does this mean I can buy without restrictions? I don't want to use the 'EU Temporary Admission' arrangement since I won't be able to re-sell the boat whilst its under TA.

The boat is registered in Poland so I can retain the polish flag (no need to re-register). Are there any insurance requirements/implications of owning a boat registered in an EU country? I will of course check with my insurance company.

There was a nagging doubt in my mind that a person buying an EU VAT paid boat who is not resident in the EU would bring to an end its Union status and free circulation in the EU status - meaning it would become non-union status and subject to import tax in Spain (even though its still there and has never left)

Morning knowledgable boaters.
I’ve just viewed a 2005 Sealine S34 in Spain. It has been out of the water for just over 2 years. Engines (Volvo Penta D4s) were winterised but not started or serviced since Oct 2022. Will they be OK or should I expect problems/leave well alone?

Provided the engines are recommissioned properly before attempting to start, new coolant, oil change, filters etc, and fuel checked for diesel bug plus new fuel filters, the fact that they’ve stood for two years shouldn’t of itself be a problem.
Thanks Sticky Fingers. Is there a VP checklist for the re-commissioning? And what about the VP stern drives attached to them? If the re-commissioning is done by a VP outlet is it safe to assume they would identify any issues requiring remediation?

Not safe to assume anything to be honest, but a VP approved service agent should do things by the book. Ref the drives, I’d want drives off, new bellows, oil change, probably replace the drive and transom shield anodes too.

As per Stickyfingers post. Being out of the water for a few years won't have done the boat any harm at all. Except the rubber bits!
So a proper service new bellows, anodes, oils in the legs whilst out of the water. When it is back in the water do the engine oil, filters and probably any V belts as it is 2004 and they tend to get forgotten about.
