I needed to replace a laminated tiller on a Sadler 34 which had suffered from water ingress into the laminations. I wanted to avoid future laminations, pretty though they are, and eventually got hold of a solid piece of greenheart which seems utterly indestructible. Online advice is that its life in seawater is about 100 years, which may see me out. I was told there is quite a lot of greenheart in Scotland because, a long time ago, it was brought in from the Amazon to build the lock gates on the Caledonian Canal. A hard, very dense wood but not hard to work. Care is needed because the dust and shavings are toxic.
