New Boat - all to get underwater lights!

The oak on the Princess I saw at london was as the bloke described it "new open grain satin oak". Apparently it has been used for a while and he also said all the "satin" wood was open grain now....funny how things stick in the memory....funny also how individual taste varies. That Fairline wood colour looks a bit bland to me....probably just the light.

Ah, excellent, Princess have cracked it then. I'll look again at next boat show

I think all oak looks a bit plain on 640x400 pics like above, but if you look at my first pic of the close-up grain you'll see it is well-selected wood with some chocolate coloured stripes in the grain

The Garmin 4012 from the lower helm has now been fitted to the Flybridge.

The Washer Dryer has arrived and will be installed in the crew cabin

More to come later

Looking good admillington! While it's there you could ask them to get Allen to Awlgrip the flybr dash in metallic brown or something, unless you prefer the white? I'm still planning to drop by on Saturday so will try to get you a few pics.

What tender are you planning?

I wouldn't call that a "mini" :)
its standard dim 60 x 55 x 85mm I think ?

I can't find any washer nor dryer smaller then that. anybody any idea?

I'm looking for two seperate "compact" machines to replace my combined washer dryer in the future.
The standard size (60cm width) is just on the edge of being too much.

I thought the same BartW - that indesit looks like a normal 60cm wide machine. Happy to be corrected though

For BA, I would think very carefully before buying mini machines. To answer your question though, they are avaialbe, for example this. With a busy boat you have so much laundry you need at least a freestanding 60cm washer and separate 60cm drier. I would reorganise the boat and just find somewhere to install them - it is 70 feet long!

You can make small mods to most machines fit them. Below is my last Sq58 where I removed the bottom left of a 60cm tumble drier, full depth front to back, to make it fit. with a vented tumble drier, as opposed to condensing, there is often quite a lot of redundant space inside the 60x80x55cm cabinet that you can get rid of. I got told off on this forum by the "what about the warranty?" brigade :D

yes I know, thats why swmbo would like two separate machines,
but I was more thinking of a "compact" machines with "standard capacity"
machines specially made for narrow places. (if ever that existed)

I'm very pleased that we found, for me a very convenient place for at least one machine in the util room, (pics will follow)
And if the Italian workers didn't make the new steps so solidly,
fit in two machines would not have been a problem,
But don't dare to tell them that I want to modify the underside af these solidly build new steps already now :)

Yes I did consider to use the wheel grinder on the old machine,
could still be a option in future

oh apologies to the OP for thread drift,
lets focus again on this beautiful NEW boat he has just got himself

I did look into this a little while ago, and the only 'proper' small machine I could find was this:

Zanussi ZWC1301W Compact Washing Machine

However, it still doesn't have the capacity of a full-sized machine.

Cheers
Jimmy

how did I miss this thread, lovely boat and interesting to see the additions taking shape, thanks for sharing...

I think we have seen you in Chi Marina last year, your old Squaddie 55 didn't look too bad...!

This is all getting a bit domestic, isn't it? Your wives and girlfriends would be laughing their heads off to read you lot discussing washing machines:)

I was thinking exactly the same Mike,
At home I always claim that I can't distinguish the washer from the dryer :)

Actually Mike I believe Princess are aware having had the feedback from many customers/would-be customers, including me when considerering a Prin 78 about 18 months ago. They told me they agree the complaints, and are looking into changing the lacquer, but I haven't seen a result yet. No doubt if someone order an M yacht from them and insisted, they would sort it out. The other thing they do a bit offputtingly is make their 90deg external joints with a strip of L section maple just glued on, eg see the end of the bed base box in pic below from the Prin78. The maple (on the 90deg corner, and around the bed edge) has a different colour from the strangely pink oak and the planted on corner strip in this location doesn't look great on £3m of boat. They are working on it though, and of course they are capable of making great interiors in the darker woods so it ought not to be difficult for them to fix this

I would imagine that the corner moulding is supposed to protect what would otherwise be an exposed and vulnerable corner which would get knocked and damaged easily. The moulding just looks lazy though. I too had noticed little things like this which make a world of difference on boats I have been lucky enough to get onboard.

However, by the time I get to place an order for one they will have had many more years to work on the finishes! If circumstances did change and I could place my order at the moment I would specify Walnut, it looks great on a Princess.

Sorry OP, I will shut up now ;-) Your interior just looks superb, thats why this drift started.

Mike.

No that won't do at all. It should have been one of those illuminated multi colour changing boat names to go with the multi colour changing u/w lights. You can never have too much bling:)
