Just fitted a Nav 6 from ICS, all I seem to be getting are mesages on 518khz, nothing on 490Khz. All the messages I amn recieving are from Ostende or Netherlands. All the filters are correctly set and the set says it is in dual mode ie ready to recive on 518 and 490.

Is it normal to get iffy Navtex reception, I'm based on the East Coast in Shotley so there's a cliff SW of me.

I find Cullercoats unreadable whilst moored on the Deben but Niton is fine. No problems with Niton last year whilst in Shotley on both frequencies... My equipment is Nasa Navtex Pro. Local conditions can have an effect on reception, last year whilst in Ostend local intereference was really bad making reception impossible. Clear of the harbour, all OK! Good luck.

I have just fitted a Navtex Six Plus to our boat and we had a similar problem with the "sig" window coming up together with the warning buzzer. We are on the East Coast too.

The handbook recommends that you can improve reception by twisting the antenna ( that is literaly turning it round in its mount) We tried a 20 degree twist and it worked for us and we were picking up messages on both frequencies. It works best when hooked up to the GPS because you only get relevant messages for the area you are in. It is simple a question of taking the NMEA feeds off the GPS and wiring them to the appropriate terminal for the Navtex.
Some marinas can be difficult reception areas at times, especially at low water. Bradwell is an example. The optional whip aerial addition might help.
