My first boat - buying tomorrow fingers crossed (advice pls)

For me it's dated but ouch, look at that road tax!

A few years ago I was looking at a big Q running on petrol, and would have had an LPG conversion but outrageous road tax killed the idea. Really unfair when the car is getting older and worth less, must be why they changed the calculations.

In the end I settled on a 3.0 diesel Q7, gets over 30mpg general driving, would have considered a 4.2 diesel also but harder to find. Effortless towing.

Jeep looks a bit bling! Is that a decent boat ramp vehicle? I don’t know the answer

Ha... not sure? I like that it's big and it seems nice? 5.7L v8 too... after seeing the jeep we then went to see a mitsibushi Outlander (they had 3 of them) but we didn't like them. was small... interior seemed cheap even though a lot newer... the guy had a 7 seater landrover disco 4 but still not a fan of it...

Went to see a q7 and it seems ok... . quality doesn't seem to be like the jeep which had a better interior too. ?‍♂️

My brother in law advised I should get a v8 q7 but I cant find one.

Must surely be something somewhere.
Test drive the V6 diesel. Still a beast and will remap to 320bhp if you felt it was lacking.

Another consideration is air suspension. Definitely would swing the decision for me having had it. Adjustable ride height, self-levelling. Certain Range R's and Beemers have it. Not all Q7's. No idea about the Jeep.

I used to tow 1800kgs with a V6 4Motion Passat and on those undulating motorway bumps caused by subsidence, the rear springs would bottom out and the mud flaps would scrape. Not a chance riding on air suspension. Extra height in off road mode useful in deep snow.

On the Audi Q7 some I looked at had a Road Tax of £630 that is also rather a lot. My Disco 2 is I think £340 mind you the Disco 3 was £600 Ouch

I never understand why people get hung up on road tax. By the time you've bought, insured and fuelled the car (to tow your boat, no less!), an extra few hundred in tax is negligible.
