First thing you will need to do is to answer the question in post #73I can't argue with a word of that, it all hinges on getting the judge onside to prefer your evidence.
Your sole intention on this thread, as on others, seems to be to prove you know more than others - the OP in this instance. Maybe you do, although it is truly amazing how many subjects you post authoritively on. He says he doesn't need any advice in relation to making a claim. Take him at his word, and if you can help or advise in relation to the one area where he asked for advice, then do so.Most people do go through life without ever setting foot in court so to have been there a dozen times does suggest you aren’t very good at out of court resolution or doing business in a way that avoids the dispute in the first place!
There’s a famous quote the “the lawyer who represents himself has a fool for a client” - it’s certainly possible to represent yourself but it’s not necessarily the quick way to an easy resolution. Nobody likes lawyers but they can actually save you a lot of stress and time.
I doubt most people in that situation have gone to court so often.
No it works on the Balance of Probabilities - it’s a dangerous assumption that this means the side with the most evidence wins.
You missed out a critical part - and for the law to support that there is a liability. Small claim cases are often not about believing all of one persons evidence and disbelieving all of the other persons.
All the judge had to do was prefer his story (in your words). Some people, even with paperwork to back up their story can’t present a convincing case - this may well be one of those cases. Past success is not a good indicator of future success - indeed it might make you overly confident about how strong your argument, or persuasive skills are. Nobody on this thread is the judge in your case, but without even hearing from the other side everyone seems to be doubting if you have the basis of a case.
£24k is peanuts to a bank - they probably used a trainee solicitor on it as a learning exercise. £5k could be loads to the seller and he may have insurance which can cover legal representation - who’s going to fight harder then?
Maybe you do, although it is truly amazing how many subjects you post authoritively on.
Nor so good at forum posts though, Irish Rover was not replying to youI have experience in many things, generally because I have become frustrated at trying to get someone else to do a job for me and so I have been forced to learn how to do it myself. Over my nearly 70 years, I have had to do a lot of it and enjoy helping others with that experience and knowledge where I can. If I don't have personal experience of something, then I will remain silent, as evidenced by my lack of input on most purely boating matters. For those I can help, I will and here are a few of my experiences, both current and rusty...
Car restoration, including all aspects such as welding, mechanical overhaul, fabrication, spraying and upholstery. Evidence available here: Facebook
Electronics, including RF and digital design and manufacture. Evidence is sparse since my website closed, but here is one of my products: Pardon our interruption... , Networking and related activities. I am currently working on a range of hobby products and a conversion module for the boat fuel sender to match the Honda fuel gauge. Thousands of photos can be provided to doubting Thomases.
Motorcycle overhaul and renovation, specifically the BMW K1200LT.
Fibreglass repair and manufacture, part of the car restoration specialising in Reliant.
House renovation, including a house renovation in Brittany, so a little bricklaying, lime plastering, plumbing, mains distribution, kitchens, bathrooms, working to NF etc.
Satellite TV, Aerial installation and associated activities. That was my retail career as AJL Electronics (G6FGO) I was in at the beginnng, when the only satellite channel was one from Russia on C band. I was a Sky dealer for many years too.
Prison education... I did ten years teaching inmates IT in four different establishments local to me.
I am or at least WAS a qualified private pilot with 150 hours on single engine Pipers up to the complex singles. Briefly I flew a Seneca III twin but that was just one flight. Log book stops at 1995.
Matters to do with CIVIL actions in the County Court, as previously discussed. I would not want to go into battle now without some brushing up though.
So, I think that I am qualified to help and advise on all of those matters, plus others I haven't listed.
No, but its a discussion forum - you may not like that the discussion isn't always directed by you but if people are talking nonsense (or even if there is just a very different view) its worth pointing out because others will come across this thread through google (or AI processing it) and won't know which bits are reliable and which are fantasy land.Your sole intention on this thread, as on others, seems to be to prove you know more than others - the OP in this instance.
Do you have some sort of inferiority complex because you keep popping up telling me that nobody can know as much as I do!Maybe you do, although it is truly amazing how many subjects you post authoritively on.
Clearly, he doesn't know as much as he thinks though, as he has invented a new legal test of preponderance of evidence. He says he doesn't need any advice in relation to making a claim. Take him at his word,
I did. It maybe wasn't the answer he wanted though!and if you can help or advise in relation to the one area where he asked for advice, then do so.

In fact quite the opposite. Many happy customers whom you have helped.I have been in business since 1979, never had to take anyone to the small claims court.
That degree of self confidence seems to be at the root of the decision not to employ a surveyor then get banjaxed by a simple question on how old my boat is and what faults does it have. So, I think that I am qualified to help and advise on all of those matters, plus others I haven't listed.
Despite all that you do not seem to have a clue about buying and owning a boat. You seem to have broken all the commonsense rules of checking provenance and title and using a standard written contract. If you have followed the correct process - which a £10 ebook from the RYA will guide you through, you would have quickly discovered the boat is not a 2000 build. The boat would have a clear permanent mark on the hull - you can't miss it, especially as you claim to be a GRP expert and inspected the boat closely. The builder still seems to be in business building the same model boat - did you talk to them?I have experience in many things, generally because I have become frustrated at trying to get someone else to do a job for me and so I have been forced to learn how to do it myself. He has been asked this several times - first in post#7. If it is a 1992 boat it may not actually have a HIN as that only became compulsory in 1997Still no answer to #73, the most basic questions that would need to be answered in court.
