JTB, been watching this thread from the start, and just thought I'd post to say thanks for a great thread with all the pics and reports, and to wish you both many happy times onboard this season. Please keep the pics coming throughout the season! :D

Cheers
Al.

Well, it seems that it didn't take long to get used to Med sea and weather...! :)
If JTB doesn't mind the anorak comment, I noticed that the two aerials are pointing outward, which doesn't looks right.
I guess the reason is that the supports only allow movement along one axis.
If so, I'd rotate the support 90° and use the movement laterally, rather than longitudinally, to set them parallel.
Of course you won't be able to lean them backward anymore, but imho they're much nicer if kept parallel and vertical, rather than pointing outward and leaned backward.
Besides, that's better also from a functional viewpoint, though the difference is probably negligible.
Congrats anyway, Vega is a great Med boat and you'll surely enjoy her a lot around here.

Oooh, the boat looks just great in those surroundings, here's to a fab first season in the Med. Have you stocked the bar yet? I will arrive around mid August, please try to remember I like mine with a slice of lemon and not lime. Thank you. :)

Yes, shameful. Luckily he wasn't sporting his ensign which would have identified the whole British nation with this gross breach of nautical etiquette:)

Great video and song matches (excuse the pun) well

Real feel good stuff i thought

I did a reply at the w/e but its lost it seems - anyway fab to see the T40 at 36knots on the plotter and most fab wake shot.

I'm surprised jfm did not make jtb adjust the aerials and have fenders stowed beforehand - although he has previous here on this detail - it will be used again!.

Remember the photo of tcm leaving SoF and the towels on the rails??? Marvellous!

Morning all

Sorry for the delay in posting, I've been away a bit...

Check this out - Vega now at home in France. Sorry a bit jerky...

Thanks for this - and also for providing the camera boat, and for helping me over to LR on Friday, appreciated. I'm slightly surprised you didn't reprise the music we used for our own soundtrack on passage! :D [/injoke]

BTW, what's with the fenders? ;)

Fair point. The short answer is that I wasn't actually expecting to go out of the harbour - the idea was that I would move out of the berth, jfm would moor Match up, and then I would immediately come back alongside and collect him - hence the fenders. But I was a bit early getting off the berth, and I saw him coming (hard to miss 60t of freshly a-glazed Sq78 bearing down on you...) so I thought I'd just bimble over and say hello; no time to pull the fenders in. Sorry chaps!

Yep, completely agreed on the aethetics - in fact the aerials are mounted on a twin axis support, so you can ostensibly adjust in both planes - but the degress of adjustment are fairly coarse, so it's not possible to get them nicely and parallelly vertical (the next 'notch' on the adjusters leaves the aerials slightly toed in). The answer is probably to shim the mounting base on the arch to finesse the position. Another entry on the jobs list!

Mate, that was job #1, come on over. I will make a diary note to provide fresh lemon! :D

...

So here's a couple more pics to show just how nicely Vega fitted into the Mole Sud scene this week ... not!

Spot the odd boat out:

Apparently the done thing on Mole Sud is to have a 'boat' car. I quite liked the little runaround selected by the chap six boats up.

And finally, on berth, in Port de la Rague, complete with newly-fitted passerelle:

The journey is nearly over ... need to sort out a few final details about the berth with the capitanerie, and then it should be job done.

Cheers

Nice filming JFM. Looked an absolutely cracking trip. Does Vega look like Match's tender?

JTB, it must have been really difficult not breaking out into a huuuuuge smile!!

So far so good. Looking forward to the next installment, presumably next week?

Great post to follow JTB very informative, I think the highest speed I ever recorded on my T34 was 43 knots, perfectly trimmed with a clean bottom and flat sea passing Peniscola - I note you actually achieved 37 knots (see below), I bet it felt just great to open her up for a short while - may I wish you very happy and trouble free cruising in your new and I must say excellent environment.

The 37kts was not WOT john. It's just what we were cruising at :). There was a slight swell and the thing would have been flying off the wave tops at a higher speed, and I was struggling to hold the camera as it was!
