Brilliant, Jimmy. I hope you're not going to turn into one of the Cote d'Azur lounge lizards on your scooter. You know the look: deep, deep tan, grey mullet, some kinda hippy-chic bling and a scooter. :D

As your pix show, the quality of light is just so different from UK even in the sunshine. I'm starting to look forward to next week when we're in SoF even though I'm currently sitting here sorting out the last knockings of our business year-end whilst nursing a stinking cold. More drugs!!

Well done Jimmy. I remember how excited I was some 6 years ago when I took my V40 to Port Roses in Spain. Same sort of story but we drove down and met the truck there.
I remember very well our first trip in the Med and arriving at our 'new' berth.

Enjoy the experience of Med boating it's so much better than the Solent when the weather's better. I only lasted a few months, didn't like not having the boat on my doorstep to tinker with, so we brought it back again!

What do you mean turn into? I had him at deep deep tan and grey mullet ;)

Glad the old girl arrived safely and we wish you all the best in your new home. Bet you can't wait for the week to end so you can get back down there.

Jealous? Nah, I'd miss the Friday night totty getting on the Gosport ferry en route to Gunwharf.

Henry :)

Great stuff Jimmee. Must have been a great relief to get her in the water in 1 piece.

With the bilge alarm, I cannot believe that the fridge door is wired into the same alarm? Could it be a voltage drop issue?

Will be down a t Brighton in a couple of weeks, looking at Vega's empty slot.

I really haven't a clue what's going on. It also seems that the same alarm is triggered when the shower sump doesn't empty, but again, I haven't been able to figure this out. (As crazy4557 says above, this is the disadvantage of not being local to the boat - if it was here, I'd just go there now and stay there until I'd got it sorted. I hate leaving the boat with unresolved defects).

Do you mean that literally? My old berth is on 08/31, and in fact I still have a contract in place on it, until the end of May. If you want the berth we should try and persuade the marina to let you have my unexpired time. (That's if I don't buy another boat in the UK in the meantime ... but that's another story altogether ).

Cheers
Jimmy

Nice one JTB - you made that look as easy as pie :)

Very good post this one - excellent reading and fab pix to complete the whole affair.

Be good to see how you like the ownership of a 'remote' craft.

As another has said - great to see you off finally which heralded the best spring March wx I can ever recall. Thus far 7 days of wall to wall and no wind either. Thank you!

Whooooo
Thats an idea

Personally, though
In the past, I've owned several dinghies at the same time.
The reality is that you only really have time for one.
And I've found that even if the boat you use is 1000 miles away, I still haven't time for one locally.
IMHO, its best to spend the extra time (that you would spend maintaining a second boat) travelling back and fore to the one which has the best weather.

All IMO though.

ahaaa,
now you make us curious Jimmy ....

regarding Hurricanes remark
I see his point,
but I still have my trailable Karnic, and although this year the usage will much less then last year, I'm not yet planning to sell her yet,
she gave us some completely different boating experinces totally different from med boating (re last year in Schotland., and hopefullty this year in Brittany, .....etc)

and yes, I also have been thinking shouldn't I sell her, and concentrate all my boating time on the vessel in the med, but then again, its a good feeling to have a boating backup nearby :)

Will be there visiting family, but unfortunately without Rafiki. Will have a wistful look around the Marina.

Yep, for sure, I hope you all appreciate that I've properly taken one for the team by moving my boat out of the UK thus ensuring that you lot all get the loveliest spring ever... :D

Cheers
Jimmy

It was always going to happen!!!

However I have a sneaking suspicion you will get a little more fun out of her in her new location....(apologies if you you call her a him but tradition and all that..)

enjoy!

Get used it to it, Jimmy, thats one of the downsides of Med boating. You need to find yourself a bloke what does down there who you can trust, somebody who knows who the best local technicians are and who can organise them on your behalf. You need a single point of contact; trying to organise different technicians from the UK yourself is a nightmare. You could of course use the local marina but you'll pay for it.
I keep a paper pad on the boat and every time something breaks I note it down immediately; at the end of every trip I email my bloke with the latest list of jobs straigtaway. I find if I don't do it immediately, I forget it all in a couple of days when I get back to the UK. Its a constant fight keeping a Med based boat in the same kind of condition you would keep it in the UK

That a true hurricane - 100% on the money

I have a RIB on a versadock at home and its used so seldom its an embarassment frankly.

On summer evenings when the tide is right and you plan well its absolute delight but between times a PITA as I need to check it , wash it , pump its tubes , repair the cover where birds , foxes attack . On and on.

Bigger Solent jobbie 70 mins last friday lunchtime M3 - O/B and party on

I would've thought a rib would be a bit rufty-tufty for an O/B rating. :D

Congratulations Jimmy on well-executed project. All worth it imho.

BJB, are you around for a boat ride over Easter? You're most welcome aboard. Not sure of exact plans but for starters there is an evening of Lumishore u/w light photgraphy planned (cos Jimmy's boat, A+K's Sq58 and mine all have Lumishores fitted) maybe Saturday eve or maybe the sunday.

I'd love it. Also wanted to ask you and Jimmy and EME (and anyone I've forgotten) over for a cup of tea if you have a moment away from the sea. Will pm my phone - think you may have it but don't think others do.
