I am encourage by sloshed's post regarding stainless steel flagpoles.

I already have a stainless steel flagpole but it could be a lot bigger. I am considering dumping the stainless stteel flagpole and replacing with a really ginormous pole and flag to go with it - anyone know where to gettem? Of course, i will justify the exercise on the ground tghat the weight of the new wooden pole will be probably (a bit) less. The diameter of the flagpole is probably 40mm, and i already have the 1.5 yard flag -so wheredya get bigger one? A red one of course -a blue one might make me seem a bit of a show-off.

Have you considered an aluminium flagpole instead of stainless steel----Our flagpole is around sixty foot tall and to avoid the flag looking scruffy, by flying away from the pole, there is a groove at the back of the flagpole into which you can slot the edge of the flag into.

With a flag pole of this size you can definitely fly a bigger ensign than anyone else, Sometimes we also pull some funny shaped white material up this flagpole, connect it with bits of ropes and things and find that it propels our boat along.

Re: hm

an excellent idea lydia. However, i beleive that your outrageous vanity is even greater then mine, and your flagpole needs a massive balance weight underneath the boat to avoid tipping over, no? Without the rididculous flagpole i have space for two two large room heaters in the bilge (think you'll find you have just one) which means the boat can really belt along sans monster flagpole, admittedly, but also sans 3 tons of weight entirely due to your (very vain) large flagpole. Also, I don't think the white material and string thingy can work that well, really, can it?

Try the Hampshire Flag Company, they'll do you up to a 6 yard - that's about 5.5 by 2.75 metres - big enough? /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Re: Bit much, ubuysa?

Err.....no (now I sound like that dog on the Churchill advert!) but the 6 yard I mentioned is only about 16 feet long at 5.5 metres. Or have I missed something?

Gotcha! Ubuysa and binary notation

Oh dear, i was of course using binary notation when specifying 110 yards as the length of the ensign - in decimal which you are obviously far more at home with, that would be 6 yards, the largest in their range.

There are two (or 10 in base 2) kinds of people, ubuysa - those who understand binary and those who don't.

So, i'm afraid you will now have to change your tagline. Sorry about all this :)
