A curvaceous boat with curves in all the right places, ending with a sweeping rear, that according to the owner, attracts much attention from other (mainly male !) boaters. The “easy to drop down wheelhouse” was actually dropped in 3 seconds recently, however, that had to be followed by some very serious repairs, & a lorry trip back to the boat builder. Currently the assembly formula resembles the MFI flat pack kit from hell. Who ever composed the design must have been a simple genius; no one else could have invented such a disaster!!
Luckily the wheelhouse designer did not appear to have had any influence on the rest of the boats design.
Beautiful beech and cherry woodwork, leather settees, granite worktops, a bathroom that would not disgrace a penthouse, and even an extremely comfortable (& tested) king sized bed in the master cabin.
The boardroom sized dinning table surrounded by green leather seating.
The heating was provided via an impressive oil fired blue “bubble” stove plus an eberspatcher.
The aft cabin, was unfortunately unavailable for the MBY hero’s inspection, as the dam lock had ceased up, he tried putting his underpants over his trousers, but he still couldn’t get in !
The crew of one was seriously briefed well before dis-embarkation, however, what followed was not in any way comparable to the prior plan. Bridges were very narrowly missed, (no for once the MBY hero was not pissed) Mind fitting a 10-6 wide barge through a small bridge was extremely tight ! The archway was quite difficult, with the satellite dish height requirements needing to be accommodated, together with the valued chimney, (as it was a nice but very cold day)
On the narrow and somewhat shallow canal, the barge handled like a demented frog, apparently, according to the owner, due to the lack of water in certain area’s, like reed bed’s & the like. Increasing power had the effect of draining the canal ahead and depositing it astern, without any perceived increase in speed. If the slightest deviation from course was not detected in a nano second, the boat would swing wildly and head for the bank. This was quite a scare for other mainly plastic boat users, and they were to be seen frequently trying also to desperately hide in the reeds; as the banana boat has an extremely large and impressive anchor on the front, and of course this would be their first, & extremely frightening point of contact.
The course was set for Glasson Dock. An option of GPS or Chart plotter not being available, so the MBY hero sought confirmation from his crew of one, as to exactly how long the now 2 hour journey would actually take to complete. Suffice it to say Glasson dock did not appear after two days and the cold & wind took its toll. Even though the owner and crew had said with some confidence that Glasson was but half an hour away
Prior to the MBY hero re entering the extremely tight marina entrance a detailed discussion was made as to the approach to the very tight berth. This was totally disregarded in favour of a victory sliding & large swoosh turn in the basin, arriving as instructed neatly alongside & in a perfect position. It was noted that not a bloody soul of the packed throng in the marina was on hand to witness, or rightfully applaud the arrival back of the MBY hero. (He did say that it was summat to do with the wind being in the right direction though, )
