Well after searching for a while I seem to have found the perfect yacht...was not going to go for a project but an opportunity came my way, she's a steel Roberts 42, needs a bit of work on the outside (clued up on steel fabrication so no dramas there hopefully) and connecting things together but for most part ist all there and I've 6 months to do her up and set off...so hope is that is sufficient and I'll have enough patience (and money lol) to achieve this :)

Thank you all for your help and very valuable advice and I will be setting up a blog site so that you can follow my journey with her from the start :)

Hello Deeps

Got any photos of her or a link ? Where is she moored? We looked at a few when we set out on our search.

Shes on the hard in Sandwich, Kent. Cosmetically she's bad but for most part its only superficial stuff which can be mended fairly quickly and without a huge cost.....she needs plating on a couple of spots below the waterline and then hooking everything up...will take photos of her as none yet and post when I have 'em...what did you end up with?

Not a dockyard job then ? Sounds like just an SMP/AMP jobbie.

If your ''going places'' then you've made the right choice in steel. Will PM you.

Cheers, yes its definitely an AMP job as you can tell by the welds..they are very strong but look very average so will need to grind back and fill in etc...she was sailed extensively as apparently there are logs proving that and overall I'm not really concerned with re-sale but would like to improve her looks though that is on a list of wishes rather than must haves..logic tells me if she sailed and has been around since the late 80s then she is reasonably built but I will do a thorough review to determine her status...

Well I spent the weekend onboard...quite exciting really as it was an alladin's cave of stuff that the previous owner left there...did an inventory of things and all I can say is wow, its mostly all there though it all needs connecting up :) few things missing but mostly cosmetic ie oven/cooker, some deck gear, some wood replaced etc...and obviously a lot of exterior work

As it happens my blog went offline for some reason also which is a shame as I had a couple of updates so will need to start a new one...bugger

Anyhow posted a new question on removing old paint from the hull...once I rebuild the blog I will keep you all posted
