just because

There is usually understandable resistance, i must say, on account of the fact that event is something akin to a road accident. Bit gutting too - apart from the main event and sitting about reading magazines whilst she screams her head off and attempts to rip the radiators off the wall, this day marks the exact time you are relegated from "partner" to "Easily The Least Important Person In The Family". I went out and bought almost entire contents of the flower shop, and also (not sure why) every single daily paper as well. After about the first four hours, it is quite boring and you get inured to the screaming from all around. Breathing the gas is quite good, I had loads and then did a lot of laughing. They put the short person under a rather worryingly hot toaster at some point. Oh, and also you get to see short person when they first open their eyes, which is a bit magical actually.

you bought the entire contents of the flower shop

surely it was not a good time to start wooing the nurses?

on the up side i recently took a friend's baby for a walk. we had been staying over and it was a boozy night so i went to get the newspapers to allow them to lie in.
a very atrtractive woman accosted me in the shop cooing over said baby. she almost melted when i told her how we had both survived a car crash that had unfortunately claimed her mother

Re: four years haha

oh dear, reminds me of a neighbour who was keen on motorbikes and traded his motocross scrambler bike for a sidecar combo whilst she was in hospital!

After 3 months it might smile (by accident) and after three years it may be able to differentiate a boat from a car (just) and after 9 years (if male) it will want to helm the boat (without you on board) or chop it in for a pony (if female)

Anti fouling

Have you cleared out your sail locker for the inevitable quantity of this that will be needed during the first couple of years of operation? Mine became self eroding after about 24 months.

Re: Anti fouling

apparently it has to be trailed in the early years i am looking into this and have found some old wheels in a skip. I plan to fashion out my own trailer as a surprise after the launch for the builder
as regards the locker space i will no doubt find my stuff cleared out and stowed in the shed before long

Re: Running Costs

......will increase as the vessel gets older. Depending on the model, this may take the form of electronic gadgets or constant renewal of the decorative finish..

Congrats

Warning

I'd not advise going down the DIY trailer route, most builders get very upset when their new craft is being transported anything other than the mark 1 super cradle with all the latest collapsible thingies. But these super cradles can be used as folding beer carriers and can fitted into most cockpit lockers.

Best of luck, I'm now grandpa times 4 and I still think that they are the best of all creations.

Be careful here - what exactly is the relationship between this surveyor you have been speaking to and the boatbuilder? It could be that he has a vested interest in keeping you out of the way during the launch. All seems a bit suspicious to me.
