Sod the boat - typical woman driver - eyes closed and head turned the wrong way anyway. Never look where they are going........... /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

Well, no. It was a Commer Highwayman with a twin carb on a 1725 Rootes engine. Wow.
we first went in 1964 in a Bedford CA van. 3 speed column change, utterly unreliable. My Aunty Ella took tinned everything, inc butter so she wouldnt have to eat that foreign muck. What an adventure.
Mind you good engine that 1725 rootes, twin carbs as well, same as the fastback sunbeam alpine!! Ally head, high cam, short pushrod, ally rocker box, was a damn good engine. Twin downdraft carbs wasnt it, cant quite remember that.
Commer Highwayman, CI conversion with solid lifting roof? I had one of those in the '80s. We did miles in it, but on over-run going downhill the carbs would leak petrol all over the engine. never caught fire, but sure stank a lot.

[/ QUOTE ] Fab van.
I used to drive one as a shop van when I worked at a garage in school holidays. It's one of those vehicles I could quite happily run now.
The six of us were driving at night along an Autobahn in the family Commer van, returning from a skiing holiday, when it suddenly cut out. Inspecting the engine, which you could do sitting inside in comfort, I noticed that the ignition coil was missing. So we took a torch and walked back along the road until we found it. Once refitted, it ran like a dream again.

And overdrive on my Sunbeam Rapier! ( first car 1979). shame about the total brake failure .. that didn't do it much good.

What sort of boat did you tow it with? It must have been pretty powerful! Did you really ski behind it all the way?
Steep learning curve, but perhaps you were getting the hang of it by the time you reached the Bay of Biscay.
