Training the wife

As the topsides are too high to step off I am designated the deck hand to step off the boat at the shrouds and get a line ashore in the marina. The wife will have to learn how the outboard functions .Its just going to be practice ,basically gentle steaming to the berth ,hard to starboard and approximate to the pontoon and stop the engine .Its bow in and there is a fender on the dock .The adjacent berth is a small fish boat well rendered so not seeing any massive problems unless at the las momment she gives it full power instead of stopping.
your wife is like your dog. You might think that you are training her or it, but the reality is completely the other way round. They just let you think that you are in charge.

I'm not sure why this particular couple are being tested given the boat seems to be securely tied up with at least 3 lines - not entirely sure what he's thinking the steering wheel will do?!

The wheel signifies his standing as the master of the ship, and that it is the crew who have to do the running around and taking the blame. 😁

It’s one of those couples on holiday….who jump on your boat, get a photo to send home…and then get off before the owner returns

When we had our 45 flybridge, I (the female) always helmed when berthing/leaving berth as my OH was more nimble and stronger than me and could hold the boat on a line or nip fore/aft with fenders as necessary. Only once did we end up with him on the pontoon without a line and me milling around to get to pontoon (Brest, as I recall).

It always struck me as odd that more women didn't feel able to helm (or weren't allowed to).

I plan for her to practice going from neutral to ahead and astern whilst we are tied up
I dont see how thats going to work if you are both tied up, but fortunately I lack imagination.

That reminds me of the fashion to have wedding photos on a boat in Vilamoura, back in the 70s;
Some friends (heavy night..) woke up to high heals on their teak deck, to find a wedding group on their (big) boat to take the required photos. Bit explosive and caused the Marina to tighten up things.. Getting permission seemed not a 'thing' Just choose the best boat..

On mooring, for a relatively small boat, how about one of the mooring hooks? After looking at stuff. I made a hook with a closing clip that fitted to the end of my boathook on a slide. Carries a line, so choose your cleat and snap it on, then sort the other lines at leasure.

Shan, 53 ft?? quite impressed. Tell us more.

Many years ago, we arrived back at our Dragonfly 800 to find a group of local youths using her as a swim 0latform 2 of them stopped to argue the toss with me. One of them must have been a young Kit Harrington, cos they knew nothing. There is a special clutch on a DF for this eventuality, so I flipped it, jettisoning the 2 miscreants into the water. To fold, you release the trampolines. Note to wedding parties, don’t gatecrash a Dragonfly.

When I kept my boat in Plymouth I used to leave her in the water over winter every other year with a full cockpit tent. I used to go down to her for the weekend every 2 to 3 weeks. One Friday night shortly after New Year I arrived opened up the boat to find the cockpit littered with bear and and a few wine bottles which wasn't so bad but the numerous cigarette buts were especially the one that had been left to burn down and scorch the teak on one of the seats.

EDIT It should read beer cans, I have left it as it was for the amusement of all. 😁 It must have been a Teddy Bears picnic

Running with the idea..
I did some photo shoots for advertising a way back.
We did two, back to back, with a dutch outfit. Quite intensive..
Any way , one required a boat to be in shot for an insurance ad. I spoke to the Marina for a decent one to be moved to a berth that fitted.
Day comes, full crew for filming. Turns out the boat draws too much to be in view..
Saw another that would fit, so banged on the hatch. Very hungover US couple, who agreed at the fist of money offered. But needed help to reposition it. No prob, Dutch crew had several able guys; All went off OK
Part of that was a telephone box. We blagued one off the phone co. And planted it in the marina. Biggest prob was keeping assorted peeps from wanting to make calls..
