It\'s criminal, someone should be sacked!

This months PBO has tested two new Beneteaus. The 373 presented to David Harding for his report, was so badly set up (slack rigging etc), it would barely sail at all to windward. After some tweaking of the rig, things did improve somewhat, but it has definitely coloured the whole tone of the test - not exactly positive. Harding is not a great fan of the modern Ben/Jen/Bav brigade anyway, so any reason for him to criticise the boat should be avoided at all costs.

It's a bit like giving Jeremy Clarkson a car with low tyre pressures - he would gratefully seize the opportunity to slag off it's poor handling.

Someone should be fired.

Re: I wish

Wish someone would present me with one. I would be quite happy to queak the rigging all day.

who did the tweaking? if Harding did it himself without beneteau's active participation then who's to say he knew what he was doing?

Who are you suggesting should be fired, Beneteau or PBO people? Why don't you write to the target of your annoyance, or did you just want to give those who are unenthusiastic about both a chuckle? I'm not sure why this is an excuse to bring Clarkson into a forum discussion, whatever one thinks of him.

Whoever presented a yacht to a Yottie Mag in a state unfit to be reviewed fairly should be sacked. The reviewer shouldn't have to tune the rig, but should review the yacht as supplied and state this. IPC lost millions in a libel case and YM lost a technical editor (Peter Milne) in precisely these circumstances.

The Jeremy Clarkson analogy is both fair and clear. What don't you understand?

Much more worrying

The rig tensions were obviously a serious oversight by someone, somewhere in the chain of command. But more worrying is the fact that the damn thing is sold as standard with a mainsheet arrangment that doesn't work on one tack. To get a boat that will sail to windward equally well on both tacks the poor punter has to put his hand in his pocket for an upgraded mainsheet system. That is shameful and/or cynical in the extreme.

I would have to say that from my knowledge the Clarkson analogy is unproven, perhaps I missed something when I got bored of him slagging off Vauxhalls.
