Honeymoon proposal for Mr & Mrs Sailbadthesinner

Day One
SUNDAY 15th JUNE
On arrival at Bergamo airport with British European, collect your hire car and drive to Erbusco (approximately 30 minute’s drive), where the Hotel L’Albereta is located in the picturesque countryside of the Franiacorta vineyards, several kilometres south of Lake Iseo.

Stay in the deluxe Lake Tower room. All the deluxe rooms are very comfortable and have en suite bathrooms with a jacuzzi bath tub and steam shower. You have free use of the swimming pool, sauna, tennis and pool room.

This evening relax and start your honeymoon in style with dinner in Gualtiero Marchesi’s fabulous restaurant, which has 2 Michelin stars.

Day Two
MONDAY 16th JUNE

This morning enjoy breakfast and a free day to explore the surrounding area, and Lake Iseo.

Perhaps this afternoon you would like to arrange a visit to the vineyards of the Franciacorta which lie all around the hotel, and taste some of the sparkling wine for which it is best known.

This evening we propose to make a reservation for you at a local restaurant.

Day Three
TUESDAY 17th JUNE

Drive east towards Lake Garda (thirty minutes), perhaps stopping at the peninsula of Sirmione to visit the Roman remains of Catullus’s villa at the end of the peninsula.

After lunch continue on to La Trebisonda, a farmhouse in the pretty Mincio River valley, which follows the river south of Lake Garda towards Mantua. Accommodation has been reserved for you here for two nights. The apartments here have en suite bathrooms and are pleasantly furnished. The owner Valeria Moretti has a gentle manner and provides an excellent breakfast each morning in the main house, with home made jams and cakes.

This region is celebrated for its gastronomy, particularly for the home made tortellini. This evening we propose a reservation at the Antica Locanda sul Mincio, a waterside inn dating from the 16th century by the picturesque watermills and fortified Visconti bridge in Borghetto sul Mincio.

Day Four
WEDNESDAY 18th JUNE

This morning explore the local countryside. The surrounding area is ideal for those who enjoy the outdoors and walking. You might decide to borrow cycles from Valeria to visit the nearby Parco Sigurta, a vast botanic parkland, formerly the summer estate of the Maffei Counts, which extends over 50 hectares, or follow the riverside walk along the Mincio.

This afternoon arrangements can be made for you to visit one of the local vineyards, which produce local wines such as Bardolino and Bianco di Custoza. This evening we propose to book you dinner in the pretty hamlet of Castellaro Lagusello, which lies 7km from the farmhouse. We recommend dinner at a restaurant here,La Dispensa.

Day Five
THURSDAY 19th JUNE
Today we propose to arrange a day at Lake Garda, the source of the River Mincio.

Drive to the Vecchia Lugana restaurant, where Eros will meet you with a speedboat. Spend the morning with Eros enjoying the sights of the lake and waterskiing.

At lunchtime Eros will drop you at the Ristorante Vecchia Lugana, where you can dine overlooking the lake. After lunch return to La Trebisonda, with the afternoon at leisure.

Day Six
FRIDAY 20th JUNE
This morning after breakfast drive the short distance north to Mantua (thirty minutes) stopping at the Palazzo del Te, the extraordinary summer palace of the Gonzagas, the Dukes of Mantua. The palace, formerly outside the city walls was designed and adorned with frescoes by Giulio Romano, Raphael’s favourite pupil. The visit culminates in the Sala dei Giganti (Room of the Giants) magnificently painted from wall to ceiling with a fresco depicting the mythological Defeat of the Giants by the Gods of Mount Olympus.

Mantua itself is a beautiful town, with an extraordinary history. The centre is very much the showpiece of the Gonzaga Dukes, dominated by their vast palace. This afternoon, you may wish to visit the palace, and see the exceptional series of frescoes in the famous Camera degli Sposi painted by Andrea Mantegna.

We propose to arrange you accommodation for one night in a junior suite in the Hotel Lorenzo in the historic heart of the city. Tonight we suggest arranging dinner sitting outside in one of the town’s pretty squares for a pizza.

Day Seven
SATURDAY 21st JUNE
This morning you are free to further explore Mantua, before driving back to the La Trebisonda.

This afternoon drive to Verona’s city centre. A private walking tour can be arranged, finishing with a visit to the cellars of the Italian Enological Institute with Aldo Steccanella to taste the region’s wines.

This evening we propose booking dinner for you at one of the city’s best restaurants. Tickets will be arranged for the opening night of the opera season to hear Turandot, performed in the Roman amphitheatre.

Day Eight
SUNDAY 22nd JUNE
This morning leave La Trebisonda and drive back towards Milan, stopping at Bergamo. Parking down in the lower town you can take the funicular up to Bergamo Alta. Enjoy a chance to shop in the beautiful boutiques and gourmet delicatessen, and visit the outstanding Cathedral before lunch in the main square outside.

After lunch continue back to the airport for the 19.50 evening flight to Birmingham with Jersey European, arriving back at 21.05.
