Is nowhere safe?

I don't understand all this hostility towards them. They aren't going to rob you, or damage your property, or even pester you excessively. They provide comfort to the lonely, and help to the needy.

I reserve my hostility for PPI insurance and double glazing salesmen, who are only in it for themselves, and never know when to give up.

They are worse than a double glazing salesman who is trying to sell you double glazing even though you already have some. They are trying to sell you something even more useless - religion. They prey on the lonely and needy and then try to make them pray!

One too many "r"s in your last word!

Oh - they'll try to make you both pray and pay.

Maybe there should be something that you can put in your window to indicate that you have already paid and prayed.

They could call it Pay, Pray and Display.

How about a simple card:-

"Sorry, we do not discuss religion, insurance nor the condition of our fenestration with strangers without a prior appointment.

Next available date:-

25th December 2036 at 00.15hrs"

I thought that this was a Liveaboard Forum. Are we really interested in the views of a Lubber living in a box in Durham, telling us to 'Get a Life'?

I find that saying "I'm a lay minister in the Church of England" usually causes them to politely withdraw. I do know of ministers who deliberately engaged them in discussion, but it's usually a bit counter-productive.

However, they can easily be challenged as for some of their key doctrines they rely on a very odd and inaccurate translation of the Bible. There's a clue in their name - "Jehovah" is a misreading of the name of God in the Hebrew Bible. Hebrew has no letters for vowels, and the name of God in Hebrew is spelt YWHW. Because naming God is banned by strict Jews, the name is usually rendered with vowel marks indicating the vowels for "Adonai" (i.e. The Lord), and it would be read as "Adonai". The combination of the consonants and the vowel marking (which are relatively modern and not present in the earliest texts) were read by the King James translators as Jehovah. In fact, the name is probably "Yahweh" - it is related to the word "I am", and ties up nicely with the account of Moses and the Burning Bush. Modern translations usually replace YWHW with THE LORD (in capitals to indicate it is the name of God that is meant) or possibly Yahweh.

This is a prime example of why you should never invite anyone who knocks on your door and wants to talk about religion in to your house. It's all really very very boring. I nodded off just before the first mention of the Bible :)

I am fascinated by the range of subjects on which AP has (or appears to have) detailed knowledge. Makes some of us look very ill educated.

See my post re a printed card and display it prominently.

A trick I heard is sometimes used with customs officials: before their visit, carefully close all hatches and openings and smoke a few cigars while inside the boat.
Then let them in :)
Since the inside of your boat is clearly an "enclosed space" and their "working environment" , might that not be an infringement of current legislation?
