What's the best way to get iplayer in Spain? I used to use expatshield but it doesn't seem to work anymore.

Rarely watch TV but I want to see the Ireland England rugby from last Sunday. Open to other ideas on how to do that.

Filmon
A common Spanish greeting is "Hola" and very civilised.
Tellypass worked another year
Unblock.us trusted by many.
You must satisfy yourself as to the legality of any of these and you must buy a tv license I understand!

I use Hotspot Shield Elite to watch in Greece but you need a subscription. Any proxy server that can give you a UK IP address should let you use iplayer but I don't know of any free ones.

We use Private Internet Access - you have to pay an annual subscription, but it allows up to 3 computers. Seems OK, although upgrades to the Mac operating system sometimes throw it, but it is very easy to re-install at no cost, which seems to resolve the problem. You can select from a range of countries to be in.

You could try Beebify (http://beebify.com/). I haven't used it for ages as it's easier to record for free on Filmon and download to watch when I have time. Works well but Filmon does block the odd sport event (mainly football I think).

I seem to remember that Beebify works but search wasn't great and you also needed to use their unBLOCKr software to sort out the Windows Media Digital Rights Management side. I think that you could watch one program for free every 24 hours but that might have changed.

EDIT: Just had a quick look and Beebify still seems to be working. However, I couldn't find the rugby in their list. It is still in BBC iPlayer until 17:00 tomorrow. I could download it and upload it somewhere for you to grab but would need to work out how to get it into iPlayer at your end. Beebify's unBLOCKr software should then sort out the Digital Rights stuff. I'll have a quick look to see if it is feasible.

Thanks but I got the youtube link from MoodySabre. SWMBO is cooking a roast tomorrow and there's beer in the fridge so that's my Sunday afternoon taken care of! :)

No problem, I only spotted his watchme.tv link and didn't spot the you tube one. Enjoy.

I did download from iPlayer and will check ease of transferring to another PC out of curiosity. I haven't used iPlayer for more than a year and see that the repository now contains an xml and an mp4 file. Filmon has pretty much taken over from iPlayer. Only downside is that I have to remember to login and set to record in advance, no downloading once show has been aired.

If you are prepared to pay about 6 squid a month, you could have a VPN like VPNUK and thereby have much better security connections to your bank accounts and use iPlayer.

My attempts to watch the last Rugby world cup in Greece (via a proxy service) ended in a complete failure 4 years ago so I'm planning ahead to the Rugby World Cup this Autumn when we will be away on the boat again.

My home PC runs continuously whilst we are away and I'm wondering if I could set it up as a Proxy Server/VPN.
Has anyone tried this rather than accessing via a 3rd party proxy site ?

Look at filmon.com you get free UK television..
We watched the Irish/England match in Spain,tv really good but
England not so good.

Thanks chaps
I was really interested to hear if anyone had setup their own local Proxy Server/VPN

RAI - just looked at VPNUK and had an online chat with them.
I think I'll try it after all and avoid cluttering my home PC with bloatware.
A 1 month VPNUK subscription would be adequate for my Autumn trip
I'll trial it at Easter when next out of the country
Thanks for the heads up

If you have a PC running in the UK, you can remotely control and view it using one of the many VNC systems - I've used TightVNC (http://www.tightvnc.com/) with great success to set up PCs in Argentina from the UK!

Thanks Mr Pilot
Yes Im familiar with VNC - I use it to drive my OpenCPN cockpit repeater but I didnt think it would be fast enough to stream video.
I think I have a weekend VNC project comming up :)
