If it is BSC which has a long history going back to days of David Niven and earlier then the identity of the artist might assist. I’m not aware of BSC having oppies as pictures but with some artistic licence they might be on the beach opposite where centaurs and such like dry out. Those blocks to left of Topper sail don’t look like Bembridge. What’s the Provinence of drawing though ?

No providence, someone on a local FB page posted it and thought it might be Bosham. (It's not.) All we've got to go on is what we can see in the image.

It really doesn't look like Bembridge to me, I know the beach people are referring to but the Building and the other bank simply aren't there IRL.

In the distance you can see something that reminds me of the North West coast of the IOW which made me wonder if it's Western Solent - Keyhaven, 'Hurst' or Lyminton. The shadows would be consistent with that but if so what's the building?

There's a view from Sturt Pond sort of has a slightly similar building but the lighthouse is missing from thepic, the clock is missing from the building and the angle is wrong if the IOW is in tbe background.

We can say with some confidence it's the UK because the Oppy has a "K" sail number. (Remember them!?)

I'm starting to suspect that the image is made up from someone's imagination based on a composite of memories of several different places - it has hints of a lot of places, but isn't a perfect match for any.

Thanks all for the ideas, interesting, I love these puzzles.

Thanks, that pretty conclusive! Although the background doesn't look right.

Perhaps the stuff in the background is the cliff at Whitecliff Bay?

Anyway, I think that nails it. It's BSC, perhaps with some stuff around it amended/jazzed up/ommitted. Perhaps intended to be across the Entrance from the sand on the North side.

YBW comes up with the goods again. 🎉

Often artists aren't aiming for a realistic depiction of what's there. They adapt it to make a better pic. Maybe to take out something distracting or just to improve the effect.

Behind my desk I have a painting of a former boat of mine in front of a coastal feature that I'm fond of and have seen many times from other boats, but not from that one - attached (excuse reflections in the glass). An easy location to identify.

In a strange sort of way, those panoramic drawings of the coast on old charts and Admiralty Pilots are more accurate than real life in order to help identify features. The same goes for some wildlife guides that bring out the distinguishing features of a bird or animal better than a colour photo can.

Wonderful image. I love a Drascombe and Fort Albert "feels" even more of a gateway to the Solent to me than Hurst Castle. When I approach that I really know I'm in.

That stock photo of BSC took me back -somewhere I have a picture of a somewhat younger me receiving a trophy on the balcony roughly in middle of building. It is said that the late David Niven threw one of his contemporaries off that balcony. If interested in Bembridge pictures the works of Cavendish Morton might be of interest. A few years ago a book was written on history of BSC and the Redwings sailed there and kept in the sheds to right of club.

Takes us full circle because there's a photo of David Niven in Bosham too, I think a nearby RAF base took over a house there (the white one near the quay) and the photo is of him sitting outside it.

I'll Google CM.
