Hi Mike

Keep posting mate, no need to take any offence at anyone, I'm sure none was intended.
Posting here is a little like e-mail, what you write may not be what the other person reads!
We all have varying levels of experience, I am sometimes in awe of some of the knowledge on here.
I often think "How the hell does he/she know that?"
Answer... they didn't 'till someone told them or showed them!

Mike,

You won't be aware of this but unfortunately some of your posts and your style of posting (e.g. starting lots of new threads and making many posts in a short period of time) are similar to those of a particular problematic user who has now been banned. We all wish you well with your new boat and are more than happy to help but I think that you need to calm down a little and in particular try to append to your old threads instead of starting new ones.

Could I also suggest that you might like to order a copy of this excellent book.....

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Motor-Cruising-H...5046&sr=8-1

.....if you order today you'll get it tomorrow.

I hope that I haven't offended you, I'm just trying to help you get the most out of this forum and not wind people up!

Cheers, Pete

lots of different personalities on the forum, just in real life, and of course as one of the newer members maybe you dont know everyone.
In fact I cant see what you are so upset about;dont think anyone has even mentioned your spelling of tow /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif But consider that there is a difference between infering and implying before getting too upset.
There is a huge wealth of experience here, and people have their own way of expressing it. Many of the questions come up fairly regularly, which means sometimes they get a rather abrupt answer. Doing a search first means the same question as was just asked by someone else doesnt have to be repeated once again.
Very occasionally soem twat appears on the forum with the only aim of flamming everyone. I dont think anyone who has been involved in your threads falls into that small group, so dont get upset and enjoy the forum and your future boating

It's not going to take you to Cornwall, with any reliability.

Utter [--word removed--].

So no experience (he has some actually, enough experience to ask good questions) = don't go anywhere in anything gets you precisely where???

Just like We call vacuum cleaners "Hoovers".

Apparently it still ticks Mr Dyson off that everyone will hoover with a Dyson but no one will claim to dyson with a Hoover /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome to the mad house. I think you're probably just being a little sensitive? hlb gave his advice which it seems everyone who matters agrees with.

Your initial question was will your 1500kg car pull 3.5 tonnes worth of boat/trailer/fuel/kit? hlb told it how it is, he even gave you some info on his own experience

"I had a two ton boat, with a trouper to pull it. Going was fine, 70 mph, no problem. Though it was an ideal tow car, stopping was another thing"

Land Rover, Range Rover or Defender should just do the job, but make sure the brakes are well serviced /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Chill out and enjoy the forum.... /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hib, has basically told me that I'll never be able to go anywhere (fair) in my boat, will never be able to trailer it, and basically wont get experience, Rubbish, I am gathering advice for the future to come, AND if the fairline that I brought wont get me anywhere, then I dont know what will.

Thanks again simon for the great comments.

Not sure if your just looking for trouble here.

I told you, that you can tow your boat, but will need a big 4X4, even then, it will take a bit of care and forethought. (Like not zooming down hills in top gear, expecting it to stop) Maybe you knew that??

Your Holiday will be fine in sheltered water. But not the boat for going round Lands End most of the time.

Now, if you find that offencive. Hard luck.

Yeh.
"I,m just going to Dyson the Lounge"
Doesn't quite roll off the Tongue properly does it?
Actually wouldn't know where to start with any make /type of domestic, electric dust sucker.
SWMBO is definately in charge of that Dept.

Funny thing though.
Got a hoover on the boat and I use it regularly.
Well it's not a Hoover as such, hey! I,m not getting sucked in on that one.

Apparently We have a grass cutter too.
Can,t call it a Lawn Mower.
Yer wanna see My grass! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hello there, Does anybody have any idea of how long a trip from southhampton to Cardiff Bay would take in a Mayland Safari 21 Motor Cruiser using a 60hp engine.

Also a rough idea of the cost in fuel would be handy.
Many thanks

Mike

I feel you are being a bit harsh, your 1st post did sound like a wind up or at least I thought so at the time. You are learning fast and are probably beginning ( hopefully ) to realise that you have limited knowledge. As long as you pose the question in the right way, you will get plenty of help.

If you read your first post again, it was very brief and implied that you had a boat and was asking to do what most people would never consider in a boat designed for sheltered waters.
If you had said you were considering buying this type of boat for a major trip, you would have had totally different responses.

I have towed small boats all over the country, last year using a Defender I towed from oop Norf to Venice, and then to Greece, total distance of over 1000 miles. It was not without its problems!
You have been given plenty of help on here, but picking a peronal feud with HLB will do you no favours. He was only trying to help in his own blunt way, when you have been on the forums a while longer you will learn a lot about different styles of posters, chill out a bit, dont take things personaly.
Good luck with the new boat.

Ps, if you want a pop at Haydn, ask him if shafts are better than outdrives! oops, I will go now /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
