Depends on where you would want it done.

I think it could be a lot cheaper in the third world like where I live than in UK south coast

Northern England. Just been quoted £2k. Last time I had it done 12 years ago it was £350. I need to find an alternative blastman🤔

I suspect that at least some of the difference is environmental controls. 12 years ago it was less often a problem to create poisonous dust and let it get into the environment. Now I'm sure it not only needs to be fully captured but probably logged and audited as well as a licence to operate. Possibly a couple of extra days and material to create a sealed environment to do the blasting in and £2k would sound about right with some inflation thrown in.

That would have been my guess - maybe a little high. Lot of area to do. Quote for my 33' 4 years ago was £350 for just the keel and same again for the hull.

Removed donkeys years of anti foul from my 38 ft power boat last year, was 1500 for the sheeting off, blasting & removal of debris etc, lump sum for everything in the blasting work but excluded any lifting, moving etc. so 2k sounds same ball park. this was for a wet slurry blast

Crucial to get a blast operator that totally understands how to get the old AF off without damaging the underlying layers.
We have osmosis on the keel. Lolts of small blisters. It needs blasting to open up those blisters. The boat was osmosis treated some time in its distant past. There is no gelcoat. The hull only has a small number of blisters. None of it is deep blister. The hull needs a different approach to the keel. How deepmthr blasting needs to go will only be know when we take off the coppercoat so we can get some sensible moisture readings. We did a trial area and the reading were not horrendous even though we did the trial on the bit with the worst blisters

I have used 2 blasting contractors and in both cases we discussed the finish required for the treatment/coating planned and they both adjusted the blasting to meet that. Both are very experienced so I guess you have to find a contractor that knows what they are doing. Not difficult down here because of the volume and variety of work they do.

Right. Makes sense. Is removing coppercoat feasible using blasting?
Yes, we planned to go back to the gel coat and re-apply Coppercoat but at circa £2k for a 38' mobo plus numerous other maintenance whilst ashore made it too expensive. The operator came down to do a test blast and the results were encouraging.FB_IMG_1727768085868.jpg

Had my 33 ft Bavaria done in Plymouth by a local company this year. Ten years of old anti foul, taken back to gel coat. Took all day. Very happy with the result. They knew exactly what they were doing and left the boat reasonably clean and tidy. £900 cash.
