How long can you run an outboard engine for?

What are you thoughts on how long you should be able to run a 4 stroke 6hp outboard for. I know that in theory as long as its pumping cooling
water round and getting petrol it should run on forever.

Honda 30 for 20 hours and Yamaha 30 for 15 hours. Main problem is fuel and the cost of replacing it !!

I would have thought that like most IC engines, as long as coolant and oil are maintained, the longer the better. IC engines suffer from cold starts, not extended full temperature running.

I just motored back from St Vaast to Christchurch with an old 8HP Honda 4 stroke on an Evolution 26. It took 14 hrs at 5+ knots and I used 20litres of fuel.
I think the outboards will go forever, and quantity of fuel is not a problem for small 4 strokes. It just depends how long you can tolerate the constant droning noise (no jokes about sailing with wives please!).
