Anything we should look out for.
Mostly turn right….
Right hand down going out of Falmouth and right going round lands end and right into Padstow.
damm?He's going the other way?
Mostly turn right….
Cornwall is alright, it's the locals you have to look out for. I know, I am one!!Cornwall.
Useful to know, I have been around it a few times, many years ago as crew not skipper, and some skippers gave it all a wide berth while others scraped quite close to the rocks using the inner passages.Main decision is inside or outside at Lands End. If quiet the barely covered rocks are visible but if choppy they are far less so.
Assuming a Mobo, hence good weather, I’d go “inside” around Lands End using radar parallel indexing to maintain distance-off. You’ll be fine.
Swells break over the two rocks, Shark's Fin and Kettle's Bottom, in choppy conditions. These days with electronic aids they are quite easily avoided but in the 1990s I have gone around Longships going south to avoid them. I have found them more easily seen going north and have never gone outside in that direction.Useful to know, I have been around it a few times, many years ago as crew not skipper, and some skippers gave it all a wide berth while others scraped quite close to the rocks using the inner passages.
I have often wondered about the reasons for making for that choice.
Also, are the rocks easier to miss, going one way rather than the other?
Have a chat with PaulRainbow. He's learning about the same type of sails !I might use the main sail down to the head then swop to the spinnaker.
