I have a customer who says his SX35 doesn't work properly, squelch won't function and stuff. Now while I have sold hundreds and only had one back with a bent knob (poor thing), I cannot ignore his complaint.

I've swapped him for an XM one.

Now I have a radio that's been back to Nasa and pronounced OK on the workshop bench, and I will be offering it cheapo cheapo shortly. However I'd like someone with a Nasa SX35 to let me send it to them, unplug theirs, and see if it functions as it should in situ. Any offers please?

If you haven't arranged a test yet I could test it for you. I had one off you last year and it is giving me good service. I won't be able to test the dsc position function though as our old Garmin 48 doesn't appear to give off the right kind of signal. I think the GPS may be damaged. I can test it's functionality as a radio for you which appears to be the customers problem.

Send me a pm if you need my details, although I'm sure you have them on your computer already.

I don't wish to take over the thread, but maybe either of you could help. I also have a NASA SX 35 purchased from All-Gadgets recently. Have had it switched on at home and seems fine.
Question is:
In the operating instructions it states it works from 'RMC sentence' on the NMEA input from GPS.
I only have an old Maggellan without NMEA output, so am in the market for a reasonably cheap handheld GPS with the correct output 'sentence', apparently they can vary.
Can anyone tell me what basic handheld GPS sets would be suitable? None of the advertisments seem to specify which output sentence they use.

Thanks

I've got my eyes on the Garmin 72 myself although the 76 has the advantage of taking an external aerial. People assure me that the 72 will work fine below without an external aerial though so it should be worth taking the saving.

Have an SX35 linked to a Garmin 128 which has been great. I have used it both with DSC and as normal VHF. Willing to help if you need it, always interesting to get to the bottom of these things!

Thanks for all the responses, I'm going to pm the volunteers and see who's closest to me and the spec! Many thanks.

I regret that I have to constantly apologise for the fact that I sell cardboard boxes with different things inside but usually know precious little about the contents technically. I suggest you mail Nasa at nasamarine@aol.com or maybe your GPS distributor who I think is Mantsbrite www.mantsbrite.com.

Thanks for that. have phoned Garmin who were most helpful. they state all their GPS sets put out an RMC sentence, therefore for anyone else who has a Nasa SX35 DSC, any Garmin will do!
Looks like a garmin 126 is now on the shopping list!
