Has anyone found a shut off valve or a way of closing an eberspacher heater exhaust pipe? My exhaust has to go out through the hull amidships and with the boat well heeled over, it would be submerged. I've got the standard through hull fitting for the exhaust but it is simply an open tube.
Any ideas would be very gratefully received!!
Thanks

I would have thought that installing an exhaust shut off valve would have a few safety implications, although I understand that an Eberspracher will not run with any exhaust obstructions. I would check with Eberspracher themselves, or one of the approved installers, before making any mods.

supposed to be installed with a swan neck made from the exhaust pipe to get it above the waterline when heeled over to solve this problem.

On my Webasto....

...I use a simple wine cork because I also run the risk of having water entering the exhaust.
I have the cork attached to a string to the guardrail and if I would forget to remove it I beleive the heater wouldn´t start. Even if it would I beleive the cork would be blown out by the exhaust pressure.

Thanks for that. My thought is to close the valve whilst there is any chance of water coming in and then open it for heater use at anchor. Since I seldom use a heater whilst actually sailing, there shouldn't be a conflict. Eberspacher tell me that they don't know of any exhaust closing valve or cap.

Thanks .... yes, I know about swan necks but unfortunately, there isn't enough height up under the deck to defeat the ingress of water when gunnels under! Hence my original question to all you experts.

We have such a fitting.....its a high temp stainless ball valve that is fitted to the skin fitting and from which the flexi stainless exhaust pipe runs to the heater.....it serves two functions in that we are unable to generate an adequate swans neck to prevent 'scooping' and as the flexi pipe is a little flimsy in construction it safeguards against damage here ......
