This idea is not my copyright I have adapted it from an idea I got from a mini transat sailor a contributor on this forum ( i followed some links from bbg )
I sail single handed a lot & regularly do over 100 miles. Tiredness is a big issue. the cockpit of a 31 series Hanse is a sit on cockpit not a sit in one so there is no where to doze off & rest ones head or back properly.
Due to seasickness I hate going below to sleep & the physical hassle of getting out of the bunk every 15 mins just does not allow me to get any rest.
I got my local sailmaker - Lonton & Gray @ Burnham on Crouch- to run up the enclosed hammock. Unfortunately I miss calculated the length it could e 75mm longer but it should allow some sleep & stop me rolling about & support my head. I sit in it looking aft with my feet in the cockpit so I have a good view of the cockpit , course etc .
By just leaning forward a couple of inches I get a 240 degree arc of vision as my eyeline is just below the cabin top. I will be fitting alternative top clamps just below the hatch to allow me to slide it over me in rough weather.
It will double up in a windy marina berth as a comfortable place to read a book & still see what is going on. I intend to fit a shelf that will fit in the vertical hatch groove with a cup holder & fiddles so i can place a snack on it if I wish.
The extra holes are so my daughter can rig it as a backrest when lounging on deck & my wife can rig it over the forehatch to keep the light out when having a lay in
