Greek Dekpa Cruising permits issuing problems

We also arrived in gouvia from Italy (UK registered boat coming from EU country) and paid 29.30 to the marina staff who gave us a receipt which we took into the port police (next door), police issued Dekpa. We then paid 15.00 to port police. Very painless and quick. The painful bit was paying the marina fee of 49.00 for 11m yacht on 24 July! But altogether, hassle free experience and good marina facilities including free use of swimming pool. Jenny

49!!!!!! They charged me 56!!!

Pah! The use of the swimming pool was not "free"! It's included in the €49 fee you paid to moor up there! Same as when people refer to WiFi as "free" just because you don't pay extra for it, and then make up excuses for it being rubbish, because it's "free"!

It's not free! Pah!

On a completely different note, we'll be doing the same in September when we arrive in Greece. Fingers crossed it goes just as smoothly for us!

BTW, Gouvia, and other K&G Med Marinas, offer a discount - 6% IIRC - to RYA members. I discovered this accidentally at Levkas when the office spotted my RYA-badged ICC. You need a membership card though.

AND 6% to members of the Cruising Association and a few Owners' Associations too.

However, if you are a local and a member of the Corfu Motor Boating Association (The secretary runs a butcher's shop in Corfu Town) you get 50% discount!

FYI The pool is not paid for by the marina, its paid for by the Blue bar, which is next to it.

we are in Greece at present and have sailed across the Cyclades. Been around here for the past 5 years and would like to add my little observations to the debate.
First I would like to say that things have definitely changed in the past five years. eg When before, was anyone charged 30 euros at customs to check in from Turkey followed by the port police asking for another 15 euros because you come from Turkey. Charges for 'harbours' with no facilities have risen sharply and the midnight to midnight was tried on us once but after a serious discussion with the port police captain, with me quoting the Greek law maker Solon (look it up Jamesmar because you have no idea who he is) the charge was reduced to one day instead of two.
Now Greece is a great cruising ground but spoiled by the Greeks themselves who have come up with the latest saying ' So you think you can do what you want?' Made me laugh as they have been doing just that with quite a lot of European money.
Will be leaving Greece but may return if the present 'climate' changes. Not all Greeks are lazy but the ones who are not are probably never seen.
To Jamesmar ; If you find any spelling mistakes feel free to contact the British Embassy and report it to YBW it is unforgiveable is it not.

I've found more places in Greece where I have been undercharged rather than overcharged - Kissparissa, Linari, Pirghadia, Mykinos, Monemvassia, Dhiakofti. In many, excluding anchorages, I've had no charge made.
Perhaps, by avoiding the popular places, people could reduce their feelings of aggravation. The Greeks, I have found, are courteous and have a sense of fair play - which many of their visitors appear to lack, including their Port Police.
I suspect it's more a case of "we always destroy the things we love".

The form is the easy bit, assuming they have some in stock. It's the form filling, stamping, receipts, photocopies, writing everything down in another book, etc. that take the time. But if there is a GP on TV when you go to the office they will probably tell you to go away.

Ah! the overriding benefit of owning a sub-10 metre boat.

Why not have the LOA modified on your registration papers? Not that I'd dream of doing it myself, but I know of many who boast of so doing (mind you few are Brits).
