Greek Dekpa Cruising permits issuing problems

Well it hasn't happened yet ..at least not in the places where we have been this year, and even if they do start to charge for a night on a harbour wall,so what?
If it has the effect of chasing off the tightwads it can't be bad.
Well I sorry sunshine , but it have started maybe not in Nidra ,Ithaki Or fishkardo where most of the summer hoilday makers go ,
As far as tight wades goes if your happy to pay my mooring fees I let you have my bank details , as it happen there a few other yachts here who read your posting and they too they be happy to send you there details too .

Don't get me wrong guys we love the Greek island and we will go back , in Years to come , but there now just too many people who come out for the summer , who throw there money around like there no to morrow and then when the prices go up they do nothing but moan , when it them who started the problem in the first places . Best time to sail Greece is from oct to dec and march to may before the people with the over loaded wallets .

Definitely ....please send me your bank details. Judging by your posts, English does not seem to be your first language,so I assume that your account is in a non-UK bank.

Yes, it's outrageous. We had to pay 89 cents for a night against the harbour wall in Efstratios. Where is it going to end?

On a more realistic note, this year we have stayed in several Aegean ports where money has clearly been spent on lazy lines, harbourmaster, water and electricity supplies. We have been charged relatively small amounts, up to €15 per night, which in many cases turned out to be for one night less than we were actually there. These are sensible amounts and surely nobody is going to object when they are clearly benefiting from the services.

Totally agree.

Don't judge people by how they write , I am prob more English then you are , born in London . And yes I still pay my taxes in the UK .

Still willing to send you my bank details ,

How long you been in Greece Jamesmer ? One year two , three I sailed over 13 years in Greece on and off and i seen a lot of chances mostly not good for Greece,
my posting on here was to make the comment that Greece is charging so people need to get use to it and charges are being made in places where in the past there have not , to start attacking people by saying " if it have the affect of chasing of tightwads " it just I insulting to people who may be in a tight budget , people who may not have as money to waste as the once who come out for a few months a year and show off by throwing there money around , and the Greeks love it , as a few have said to me in the past if the English and others want to give us there money we take it . Keep it coming .

we are in Greece at present and have sailed across the Cyclades. Been around here for the past 5 years and would like to add my little observations to the debate.
First I would like to say that things have definitely changed in the past five years. eg When before, was anyone charged 30 euros at customs to check in from Turkey followed by the port police asking for another 15 euros because you come from Turkey. Charges for 'harbours' with no facilities have risen sharply and the midnight to midnight was tried on us once but after a serious discussion with the port police captain, with me quoting the Greek law maker Solon (look it up Jamesmar because you have no idea who he is) the charge was reduced to one day instead of two.
Now Greece is a great cruising ground but spoiled by the Greeks themselves who have come up with the latest saying ' So you think you can do what you want?' Made me laugh as they have been doing just that with quite a lot of European money.
Will be leaving Greece but may return if the present 'climate' changes. Not all Greeks are lazy but the ones who are not are probably never seen.
To Jamesmar ; If you find any spelling mistakes feel free to contact the British Embassy and report it to YBW it is unforgiveable is it not.

My sincere apologies...I naturally assumed that you were translating from a foreign language . Yes,you are indeed more English than I am...about a million percent if that is possible.I don't have a drop of English blood in my veins.
I have only been sailing in Greece for 10 years , and like you have seen fees being charged in places that were previously free. This was a situation that could never have continued, especially in view of the drastic financial plight that Greece is experiencing . I reckon that the port police and harbour authorities are having to justify their existence now,so are being more proactive at collecting money...just a thought
I agree with your comment that "Greece is charging so people need to get used to it" That is exactly the point I was trying to make, we are in total harmony with each other!!!!!.We are on a budget like many people ,but I am perfectly happy to pay the going rate for the service I receive be it mooring ,water or anything else.

Greece is still very good value for money as far as sailing is concerned ..long ay it continue.
Again...apologies for my believing that you were anything other than English.

You are quite correct...I did have no idea who he was,but Mr Google came to the rescue. He was quite a guy by all accounts, pity he isn't around in present day Greece, they could use someone like him to sort the mess out!!
I am definitely impressed by your ability to quote him in front of the PP. Respect.

Anyway, I hope that we are not making too much of an issue here. Things are changing we can't fight it we just have to adapt .

Forgive me asking ,but I thought that I had given this information in post #25, which you quoted in #31. Or am I missing something?
You did indeed say that Pedi was preferable to Simi. However, it wasn't clear whether it was an option to check in to Greece without taking one's boat into Simi Harbour.

Yes sorry about any confusion...you don't need to take the boat into the town harbour, just park in Pedi and jump on the bus, tell the port police that you are in Pedi and do the business then head back over.
Incidentally...........on the LHS of the jetty at Pedi, looking out towards the bay, there are some large tyres to act as fenders. We went alongside there last year ,not expecting any problems.
However A very kind gentleman came over and told us that an inter island freighter called into Pedi bay occasionally and he had just seen it coming round the corner, and that we were in it's parking place!!!
We swiftly hopped round to the other side of the jetty and tied up there. The Gent had a boat called I think "Julia Too" or similar and I did not get a chance to thank him as he had left by the time we got sorted out.If anyone knows him please pass on out thanks and he is due several beers from me.

Back to the DEKPA issue. I'm heading out to the Ionian next week and was wondering if it's possible to download a blank DEKPA form, so that I don't have a 3 days episode back and forth to the local police station?

The form is the easy bit, assuming they have some in stock. It's the form filling, stamping, receipts, photocopies, writing everything down in another book, etc. that take the time. But if there is a GP on TV when you go to the office they will probably tell you to go away.

Its a nice idea but remember this whole DEKPA thing is not done for the convenience of the the visiting yacht. No its done to maximise the employment activities of the the port police. So if I were you I'd reserve those three days to get one - but dont bother in Gouvia go somewhere else for it otherwise you'll need six days (three of which you'll have spent Gouvia marina fees).

Maybe I was lucky, but I arrived at Gouvia last month, my first port of call into Greece. I was given a DEKPA, paid the dues, and all done in a friendly way, within 20 minutes. 3 weeks later, checking back to Gouvia before heading off to Sicily, the guy in the office was a bit grumpy but all was stamped properly in less than 10 mins, including a wait in the queue. Other places for stamping were friendly and polite too.

During our recent cruise we berthed in the very small fishing port of Skala Polikhnitou in the western inland sea of Lesvos. We headed there to avoid southerly gales and stayed for several days. There is no ferry service to the port, there were no other visitors, or space for them, no shipping activity whatsoever during our time there and most of the fishing fleet is in the 'very small to small' category. Despite this, there were at least four port police in the office, quite probably more than that on shift working. We paid about €5 per night.

At Efstratios we paid €0.89 per night! At least two PP but a ferry does call occasionally to keep them busy.

Very pleased to hear it maybe at last Gouvia have smartened up their act, they did stand out amongst the many. The excuse of we have run out of forms could only go on for so long.

We also arrived in gouvia from Italy (UK registered boat coming from EU country) and paid 29.30 to the marina staff who gave us a receipt which we took into the port police (next door), police issued Dekpa. We then paid 15.00 to port police. Very painless and quick. The painful bit was paying the marina fee of 49.00 for 11m yacht on 24 July! But altogether, hassle free experience and good marina facilities including free use of swimming pool. Jenny
