Have arrived in Corfu Town at last. So visit Port Police to organise DEKPA. Up to Tax office to pay, wait 1 hour - tax offices closes - so back Monday morning. Paid €29 with formal receipt. Back to Port Police. Ah, but we have a problem. We have no DEKPA forms so we cannot give you a DEKPA. He sends us back to the tax office with a note to refund us. Refund made OK.

It appears they do not know how to get any more forms. We had a dutch boat alongside who had sailed from the southern Ionian via 2 Ports to get their Dekpa. Each time they were told that they could not issue one and that they need to go to Levkas - and then to Corfu, where they learnt the truth! It seems that the port police would not tell them the truth - loss of face???? Anyway we now have a crew list duly stamped (and paid for €15 - which I thought was not chargeable) with a note from the Port Police at Corfu saying that we had tried to get a DEKPA.

Anyone else had the same experience?

Corfu town is lovely, it has hardly changed since 29 years ago. We are tied up in the old harbour (for free) and will stay till the weekend when SWMBO joins.

So now off to find some camping GAZ. It appears that the factory was shut down due to safety breaches. I thin I ave located someone who will refill. Is this local to Corfu or Greece wide? I seem to remember Viv Cox posting about this some months back.

Hello

no problem getting a dekpa but the days of free berthing at town quays are over, they are nickle and diming, collecting every cent to pay their debts.

Come on, get real, compared to where in the Mediterranean? Which quays have just started collecting (in your experience) which were not collecting before? Let us know, so we can avoid them.

We've just spent a few days in the new marina south side of Agio Cambos port......no charge.
Even if you do pay it's paltry in most cases. Which part of Greece don't you like the fees?
I'm afraid you need to go to Croatia/Spain/Italy etc, to get the feel of really paying......

All the ports in Cephalonia - the Port Police are making a big drive - and in Xanthia, Kriti (though the latter I don't object to as the provided a ground-line).

Why avoid them? It only works out at about €7/day, less than most UK ports.

Jim asked in a post above which ports are now charging.

We did 2 months last year in the Ionian and only were asked to pay in Argostoli.

This year we have just done two months in the Gulf of Corinth and Saronic and although not visited before - seemed to have tightened up - judging by how many times the Port Police wander up and down asking boats to come and register.

We had to pay in Galaxhidi, Andikiron, Epidhavros, Methana, Poros, and Ermoni. The only ports that didn't chase us were Navpilion and Corinth(sorry about the spelling).

Charges were the usual so not a problem.

By the way, we were really impressed by Galaxhidi. Really nice place with the harbour done out very well. Certainly worth a stop if on the way down to the canal.

err sorry if I gave the wrong impression, I dont mind paying the town quay levy but all we've heard since arriving is moans and groans from the old lags about the "new" charges. For reasons I wont go into we are grounded, forced to stay where we are for another 12 weeks or so, but hey, what a place to be stranded! miles (oops there I go again!) kilometres of bars and cafes good fish resturants and ice cold beer and secure mooring.

if this is "expensive" hardship bring it on - can I have 2 please!

fees Saronic/argolic

Fees paid in June
Poros 3.20,3.00,2.70 - on the pontoon
hydra 1.77 water 6 euros
Monemvasia - 2.06 - only because a big motor yacht woke up the port police
Spetizia - 20 Euros in the creek for water and electricity - pay or leave .Never going back again
Ermonini - 1.73

Astros and Plaka had flotilla's in so hid amongest them

Over-all very cheap

Pretty much the same experience in Gouvia, Port Police total waste of space. Spent 3 days between the marina office and the police and trying to find the tax office and chasing non existent forms (they had runout!??) believe me my patience ran out on day3. Gave up - came to Preveza started again relatively straightforward tax office easier to find but of course general strike so closed come back tomorrow. Oh and final catch was I needed to photocopy everything for him so I had to then find a photocopy shop. Presumably the photocopy machine in his office was not for people who spend currency in the country.

I am flabbered how difficult it is to give them money - no wonder the economy is down the chute.

Hi Jim. Finally made it out here to Corfu. No charge here on old harbour key. Staying for a week while waiting for wife. If the charges are 3-6 euros per night thats ok with me, rather a relief after being fleeced rotten in some italian and island marinas!

No one really answered question on DEKPA - no one can get one here as they have no forms and don't know when they will. I have a stamped note from the port police saying that I have tried to get one. He says don;t worry about it, try again in Levcadas in a few weeks time. There also seems to be a discrepancy as to what people are being charged. on 12 metres it was €29. another similar boat was charged €79.

In away I am slightly worried that another Port Police will not accept this and I may get into trouble! As some one else said - welcome to Greece!

Jon - Tax office in Corfu was easy to find if you know where it is!!!! (Bit Irish today.) The Port Police here - after a wasted initial errand, berated his staff for sending us to the tax office when they knew damn well they had no forms! He was very straight forward and helpful. All in all it took very little time (1 morning) to get nowhere!

Perhaps we may cross down the trail - boat name is CARINA.

Hi - I did get my DEkpa today in Preveza. I shouldn't worry the whole scheme seems to have been dreamt up by some paranoid bureaucrat - totally unworkable.

Anyway if they imprison me on some infringement I'll see you in the slammer. My boat name is Doucement.

Cheers

Ps Why cant they make their own photocopies and why do I have to get the bus to the tax office? These are pointless questions I seem to ponder endlessly.

Stuff of sleepless nights - what happens if I can't find a photocopier - I go to jail!

I will look out for you.. Will try once more here on Monday before we leave going south. Will look out for you - Actually I think we have already seen you in Aye Stefanos I think
