I have just removed my prop ( Fixed 2 Blade ) and am undecided as to fit it back, or to fit a Folding 2 blade Prop of the same diameter and pitch ( Gori ) ( Came with the boat as spare)
What difference will I see if I swop the fixed for the folding my guess is :
A) Slight increase in speed whilst sailing due to prop being folded less drag ?
B) Reduced prop walk ?
C) Less response in slowing under engine due to waiting for blades to open
D) Under engine don’t know what difference to expect.
Can anyone enlighten me as to the advantages / disadvantages between props ?
Thanks in advance.

Did virtually the same thing at the end of last years lay up - replaced fixed 2 blade 15"x12"pitch prop with Gori 2 blade folding prop of same dimentions. It was without doubt the single best thing I did to the baot last year. The Gori prop is better in all areas (though the fixed prop was rather cheap, and the Gori quite expensive). We get a higher top speed under engine - but without any more engine revs, astern is a little slower to take effect but is still positive and predictable. As for prop walk it is hard for me to judge reliably - the prop is on the port side anyway - but I believe there is less. Under sail it is better in every way. Do it.

Regards, Jeff.

Depends on your boat and boating style really. I don't think a folding prop will make much difference to a heavy disp. type but certainly would to a moderate disp.( boat that is). If you like to sail every where then by all means fit it but if you motor sail a lot stick with the fixed blade sell the folder and use the dosh to fill the tank.

I changed my fixed 2 blade to an autoprop a few years ago. I wouldn't go back mainly because of the extra control in reverse and the ability to stop on a sixpence which I find invaluable in a marina.

check the condition of the Gori as I would only expect the fixed 2blade to be preferred if the Gori had worn pivots or gears

Fitted 3 blade Gorgi some 6 years ago, now after 15,000+ miles still no signs of wear on prop bearings, blades and hub nor have I had any troubles with gearbox etc.
As others have said a great boon, I have not regreted fitting it or its cost once.

Moody

I've tinkered about with props on the Moody, Mick. Posted something a year or two ago. Search the board for 'Radice'. The Radice's ok; the Gori's supposed to be better but when I bought mine 5yrs ago, they didn't offer one at 12" dia which was what I needed.

Thanks all for responses, have now identified folding prop as a Radice and not Gori as first thought.
Folding prop seems to have more advantages over fixed.
