Couple of things I'm not sure of - what is meant be "calibrated" chain to fit windlass - AFAIK, chain is 8,10,12mm etc. - how can it be calibrated to a windlass?
Secondly, can a windlass cope with part chain, part rope? - all chain is going to add a lot of weight in the wrong place on a Sadler 32.

A chain consists of links, the dimension 8 mm says that the thickness of the link material is 8 mm - but nothing about the length & width of each link.
If the links wont fit into the "groves" on the gypsy it will slip while hoisting - so calibrating make sure the chain fit the gypsy (tolerances and measures)

Many windlasses come with a gypsy that can take both chain and rope - you need a splice between the chain & rope that will pass over the gypsy.
