Over the past few months, probably brought on by the very hot summer, the vinyl trim underneath the front screenhelm vinyl covering 1.jpghelm vinyl covering 2.jpghelm vinyl covering 3.jpghelm vinyl covering 4.jpg has badly delaminated and needs repairing. Does anyone know someone with Fairline knowledge that might be able to tell me how the framework in this area can be dis-assembled to allow new vinyl covering?

That will just be the beginning. The foam in contact with the glue rots and it will spread to all panels over time.

Ed Engel is ex Fairline and does these jobs. I have done my boat myself ( Squadron 58) and the only real was is just start taking it to bits and see where it goes if DIY.

All panels in the boat are either held on by visible fixings, dual lock ( industrial velcro) or hidden fixings that can usually be found ( underneath or for upholstery etc screws hidden in the folds. Duel Lock is most common and bear in mind it will basically not move until it gets to its break away force - which can lead you to think it it glued.

Glued on panels are relatively rare ( I have had the boat in total pieces)

if you break a panel then they are usually well mounted and a line of stapes across it and then covered will salvage the situation.

A few ( rare) seems to be covered in situ ( there is one curved panel in the celling on a 58 like this) in which case remove and then tuck in using a flat tool.

Thanks for your help. Do you have a contact email/number for Ed Engel? He may be able to offer some help in removing the panels. I can get them recovered.

Is this your first winter with the boat?
I had a Phantom 48 for about 18 months a couple of years back, the black vinyl in front of the helm looks fine during the summer months, but once the temp drop a bit it lumps and creases formed on all panels. It goes back to normal once the temps rise a bit in the spring.
As jrudge mentions, all the panels are held on with dual-lock tape, I found the wooden frame behind the panels directly below the windscreen were rotten, probably due to condensation running down the inside of the screen.
If you have these panels off check the hose connections to the windscreen washers, mind had a habit of popping off if the nozzles froze.
