I am replacing the above (the bit that receives the cooling water from the block) and would like to know if there is a gasket between this part and the manifold. I have three of the retaining nuts/studs off, but can't get at the one at bottom left (looking from gearbox end)to unscrew it. Any suggestions? I say nuts/studs because of the three bits I have removed, two came out as studs and in the other case the nut came away on its own. Is this normal?

Mick,
I thought I was going to be able to help you, as I have a Workshop Manual. But.... I have just looked through it, and discovered that there is no section dealing with the exhaust - manifold/water injection. I changed my exhaust/water injection bend three years ago, and cannot remember if there was a gasket - although I think there was one.

So, I view of this, may I suggest you phone the Bukh people at 01202 668840,

or post your query on the Westerly newsgroup, at Westerly-Owners@yahoogroups.com or contact the webmaster for details for joining the group at webmaster@westerly-owners.co.uk

Alternatively, you can go to the website and join there - http://www.westerly-owners.co.uk/index.html

Yes there is a gasket. Available from Bukh agents. Re your stud /nut problem they are nuts, it's not unsual for this to happen it does not matter if they come out as studs because you will know where they came out of. I think from memory that you need a ringkey to get last one out. When you are re-asembleing you use Copperslip it will make the next time much easier.

Jim.

Thanks for replies. I 've managed to get the exhaust bend off at last but now I can't separate the bend from the thick exhaust hose. Help!

I replaced the bend on a 20 and because it was rotted cast iron, a tap with a hammer broke it in pieces from the hose. Yes there was a gasket.
