I don't think so as in home waters you can fly or wear whatever bit of rag you choose, not sure if it is or could be part of the conditions of Pt 1 registration though.

Equally ironically, we fly the ‘Saltire‘ from the leech of the mainsail when racing, it being code flag M, and therefore our fleet race flag.

Maybe. Quite funny it being the multihull fleet flag. The other boat I race has to use W, as X is in use in the start sequence.

Given the number of ne’er do wells who use the water to ply their undesirable trades, understandable. And the French do love their rules, regs and paperwork. Well, not the people obviously. Officials of any kind though, the lower down the pecking order the more they love it.

We’ve been anchored off St Pierre, Martinique for a couple of days. The boat next to us had a Dutch ensign on the ensign staff at the stern but in addition a smaller German ensign flying from the backstay. (My guess was tgat it is Dutch registered but with a German crew on board but who knows? It was odd looking and Mrs M and I both said they’d be better to put the German one at the cross trees. )

When we got up yesterday morning the boat had gone. We had a lazy start and then motor-sailed down the coast of Martinique towards Fort de France. Guess which boat we saw boarded and held up for ages by the local Douanes.

Just sayin.. (for those who think these things are petty and don’t matter etc)

This reminds me of my days in NI where they would riot over a flag flying or not flying.

The kerbstones and post boxes were painted red, white and blue. And Ian Paisley was calling for hell and damnation on all those who didn't agree with him.

Indeed - and its difficult to work out which is worse - the people waving "points" by flying a flag needlessly or those who get upset that they do.

Depending on where you were they were painted in Orange, green and white, I've seen it in Liverpool and NI. both

Mostly Protestant areas were bedecked. For the 12th.

There was a period where Catholic areas flew Palestinian flags and Protestant areas flew Israeli ones. But that was just minor sparring.

Well I wouldn't expect the catholic areas to be celebrating the 12th and the Battle of the Boyne any more than I would the protestant areas to be commemorating the death of Bobby Sands ( I was there on that day)
