I’ve said it too, in spite of having some sympathy for the Scots who want to fly their national flag
They can just not where they do and for the reasons they do when in Foreign ports.I’ve said it too, in spite of having some sympathy for the Scots who want to fly their national flag
Ironically here, isn’t flying St George's cross illegal even in home waters? They can just not where they do and for the reasons they do when in Foreign ports.

”The flag of Saint George is also the rank flag of an Admiral in the Royal Navy, and civilian craft are forbidden to fly it.”I don't think so as in home waters you can fly or wear whatever bit of rag you choose, not sure if it is or could be part of the conditions of Pt 1 registration though.
"My vessel is stopped and making no way through the water". Is that the equivalent of hoisting foreign colours to confuse the enemy?Equally ironically, we fly the ‘Saltire‘ from the leech of the mainsail when racing, it being code flag M, and therefore our fleet race flag.
Maybe. Quite funny it being the multihull fleet flag. The other boat I race has to use W, as X is in use in the start sequence."My vessel is stopped and making no way through the water". Is that the equivalent of hoisting foreign colours to confuse the enemy?

The French don’t think so, they love a multihull. What! Damned unsporting sir, should be horsewhipped.
The French in general love anything that floats. The French don’t think so, they love a multihull.
Hmmm. Seen some things floating in the Med I didn’t love! The French in general love anything that floats.
We’ve been anchored off St Pierre, Martinique for a couple of days. The boat next to us had a Dutch ensign on the ensign staff at the stern but in addition a smaller German ensign flying from the backstay. (My guess was tgat it is Dutch registered but with a German crew on board but who knows? It was odd looking and Mrs M and I both said they’d be better to put the German one at the cross trees. )Given the number of ne’er do wells who use the water to ply their undesirable trades, understandable. And the French do love their rules, regs and paperwork. Well, not the people obviously. Officials of any kind though, the lower down the pecking order the more they love it.
Indeed - and its difficult to work out which is worse - the people waving "points" by flying a flag needlessly or those who get upset that they do.This reminds me of my days in NI where they would riot over a flag flying or not flying.
The kerbstones and post boxes were painted red, white and blue. And Ian Paisley was calling for hell and damnation on all those who didn't agree with him.

Mostly Protestant areas were bedecked. For the 12th.Depending on where you were they were painted in Orange, green and white, I've seen it in Liverpool and NI. both

There was a period where Catholic areas flew Palestinian flags and Protestant areas flew Israeli ones. But that was just minor sparring.
