Electric Horns

I use an electric horn on my sailing boat! OK, it's not one of those twin trumpet thingies but an old car horn bolted to a 'handle' and a lead which plugs into a 12c socket - makes an excellent fog horn!

That's quite a good idea. When it really gets cold and damp and foggy the gas horns freeze up just when you need them....

I suppose it is a matter of size - and Yes, it does matter when it comes to electric horns.
When I served on the sail training ketch Tectona we had a super Maserati twin air horn mounted on the charthouse roof. Not many yachts have charthouse roofs I guess, but that horn could be heard a mile or more away as several other vessels reported to us.
The 12v were used to drive a small air compressor which delivered high pressure air to a couple of horns, but where to mount them on a proper yacht?

I've wondered about mounting a set of air horns onto a piece of board with a flying lead to a 12V socket. Normally kept below, but in poor vis brought up on deck and pointed at any target spotted by radar. Directionally could be better than a fixed mounting.

Thought about getting a set that played tunes. Hearing 'Yellow Rose of Texas' should seriously worry any one out there!
