All,

Boat is all polished and was ready for launch by Easter, however a few weeks back while having the leg rebuilt the engineer discoverd a small amount of play in the steering. As the boat is still under warranty they have arranged for the job to be done, with engine out! and new transom plate etc etc. Basically the whole thing will be new! Dilemma is that the parts have still not arrived and the Easter weekend launch is fading, The engineer has said that she could go back in the water as is and the work can be done later in the season or at the end. The warranty claim will remain valid...... SO, do i re-launch and enjoy the current climate and the Easter break or do I sit patiently and get all the work done???

OH I just can't make up my mind!!!???????

Agreed. The chances of them doing the job before Easter is nil as everyone is overstretched trying to get the hoards back on the water.

Definitely get the offer of the warranty work being done later in writing though as, for example, the personnel may change.

Have a nice holiday.

As long as they are a reputable company, and still likely to be in business, let them do it at the end of the season. Get it in writing, and ask them to extend the warrentee on any item effected, including the removale of other items by the length of the time delay.

If were talking just a week or so I would wait and get the job done now. Cos it would be on my mind all year.

From past experience leave it with them until it is done. You will miss Easter but at least the job will be done. I waited over 6 months for a warranty job and in the end sold the boat before it was carried out. I spotted it soon after purchase and the marina sales manager said he would sort it out in a few weeks, as he was busy. So I took the boat away and whenever it returned they never had time to carry out the repair. In the end I did not use them to purchase my next boat and when they asked why and explained the situation they were astonished that I thought that waiting 6 months was bad service! “After all we would have eventually got round to it” that was the final thing they ever said to me.

What you should consider is do you trust the dealer. All the paper and guarantees in the world will not make a dealer do your job if someone else is paying cash for a job in front of you.

Only my thoughts so go with your instinct.

Hi Ian,

Thought that was what you meant, as I agreed with what you also said. Maybe it is boating on Windermere that has Jaded us? Mind you the dealer that let me down was in Wales.

A job on Windermere never takes 6 months, well er actually I did wait 4.5months last year and so far this year 2.5 months but it is booked in!

See you up there soon,

Paul

Is this bad enough to be a safety issue or just a really ought to be done whenever situation. When was the last time you can remember anything ever being done on time.Every body and their mum will be wanting marine stuff done right now.
As for worrying about a bit of wear well i would rather be out there worrying, than sitting at home steaming, cos the weathers nice.
