Continuing my belief that objective and accurate knowledge is best shared I have another release from Allen Brothers.

Through Deck Bushes – all you need to know

For this who worry - I have no association with Allen Brothers - I'm simply on their mail list. They produce interesting and informative technical releases.

Deck bushes are bit like Low Friction Rings, or maybe more accurately LFRs appear to be derived from the idea of 'floating' deck bushes. Applications are limited by your needs and imagination.

To illustrate a bit of lateral thinking I used them in my design of a catamaran (it could have been a monohull) bridle and installed 'deck bushes' in the bridle plate. I had the bushes custom made as I could not find ones of the sizes I needed.

The application is described in this article:

Adjustable Snubber Bridle and Chain Hook - Practical Sailor

I had two types of deck bushes made, the black ones are in, black anodised, Aluminium and the silver ones - 316 stainless. They are the same size. The plate itself is made from Duplex stainless.

I don't think Allen Bros are suggesting they are new they are simply offering a collective view of usage and application. They offer a series of short articles, all of which are obviously part of their marketing strategy - as Marlow do for splicing etc,

I think deck bushes have been around much longer than 10 years.

2 part threaded LFRs might be a more recent development (of which I had been unaware until I was developing my bridle plate).
